To setup the email trigger for your account:
Just go to preference, select "Email & Subscription Settings" and Topic/Forum subscription alert type as "Alerts by email"..

For thread tracking, you need to manually enable it for each thread. Once you're viewing a thread, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Locate the option "Track Topic" which appears to the left of the Board Time.

From the page that loads you can select the notification type you want.

there was a video clip (youtube or some other) where this guy DIYed one using a very simple concept - a bolt/ screw that's the same size as a standard tripod plate screw, attached to a small metal strip by a - get this - fishing line (prob 20lb)

it works on reverse tension, instead of resting your setup on a monopod, you lift it instead and the resistance provides stability. the whole thing is cheap cheap and also tucks into a pocket. quite an innovative design.
I won't want to use this with Tele lens haha... you get double muscle ache than using without it haha..
