Maybe you need to do price comparison back then when Minolta/KM is producing those lenses not Sony.

Well, half-half I guess, it depends on how you see value as it is. It is possible to go very cheap and still, very good on A mount, as long as you know where to look. If you fit in the 70-210 f4 beercan on a Sony body, it's almost as good as fitting a 70-200 f4 L USM IS... which is several times more expensive. Also, there's the benefit of being able to fit cheaper third party lenses, which are great optically, like the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and still get IS... Wide angle IS is one of the best advantage we have, because lenses like 24-70 are IS enabled, and my friends in C/N are left wanting more for their own 24-70 designs, because on a crop factored body, 70mm becomes at least 105mm, which on itself could really use some IS, but they don't have it... So that's another advantage. Besides, having two lines of premium lenses with different coatings and dynamics. High contrast + High Resolution of the Carl Zeiss and the mellow colours and toning of the G, which gives a user a lot of choices, instead of letting them choose whether it's IS or Non IS - a thing which is good for Sony's inventory too because they don't have to factor in many things. We have a lot of new lenses introduced, and optically they are excellent, or even class leading in that regard. With more new lens designs on the horizon, this makes Alpha mount a very excitable brand to invest in as you have more variety of choices and a set of new optically excellent lenses to look forward to. Lately, Sony's moves into the market has made Nikon and Canon respond, like flooding the market with entry level machines (also retaining older models on the sales counter - while Sony's machines on the market are all new models), and their commitment to expanding their share of the market so far has been good. I've had good experiences with all the camera bodies made by Sony so far (esp a900... despite all its "noise issues" - on photoshoots, this is a dream machine to use and it gives new life to all my lenses, new and old), I think, they are very ergonomic, and usable machines and should suit my work needs very well. Bank on Sony, I'd say, this may does sound evangelist, but it's sensible, at least to me - I bet on the guy with the marketing (Compare the efforts of Sony vs Minolta then), the technology, the right people (Tamron, Minolta, Carl Zeiss) and also, I bet on the guy with the wafer Fabs (sony's amongst the world's top 20 semi conductor manufacturer by sales - at least, one of the big 3 has to lease his wafer fab... ).*just a thought* Edited by ChaoxAngel, Feb 8 2009, 12:07 PM.

prices will always fluctuate, that "advantage" will swing to and fro w/o end. but the important thing is we have IS/ SSS in the body, and it doesn't matter which lens we use, old, new, or even M24-mount or N or C lenses with an adaptor. |
