mdaan, here are a couple of pointers to answer your question:
1. full manual focus
2. don't be greedy, move in slowly and focus as you go - otw you can easily lose your bearing as you close in on your subject
3. breathe! apply what the SAF taught you ;)
4. keep finger on shutter release, half-press (its MF anyway so no issue)
5. when the moment is right, your intended part of the macro subject is in focus, shoot.

weight is not an issue, with some practice :)
unless you're crazy enough like me to try the bellows for insect macros ;)

Hi mdaan , i second to what Bro TH said that weight is not an issue , need more practice only & you will get used to the weight of your gears . I used to have the VG on the A700 flash too ... But recently only i took out the VG for macro . You did well on the Flowers . :clapping: If you are using the Tripod , you may not need the flash directly , some of our Bros here only use the flash to fill in light .

>>> mdzmr , at least you got Birds ... But i also got a Rat ! :sofunny:

thx TH and Ming.

#1-5 are all on manual focus and on tripod cos i knw i cannot handhold the cam and manual focus. i can hold my breathing but my body tend to move forward, backwards and sideways. that's the main problem :sofunny: manual focussed swee-swee already, then body swings ard = many2 OOF photos.

maybe try still objects first. will try harder nxt time.

hahahaha... tummy in the way eh? not to worry bro, you're not alone, i've nearly passed out on a few occasions crunching for a low-angle shot, and could not breathe. the shallow DOF even at f8 is a pain... next time we shd bring along mats/ newspaper to lie down or small foldable stools to sit on iso squatting. :)

otw, one quick fix is a wider stance, stabilize legs first before moving in. i dunno if i was aching on sat night from hauling the 400mm around or from macro though i suspect the latter haha..

Wah ! kaopei you got a lot of shots leh . But that 'chocolate cake' looks ... ... ... :faint:

I am quite a fatty also with the 'Tummy Problem' ... And the 'Breathing' part really is not easy . Always after a shot or 2 , i find myself catching for breath & sweating a lot ... And normally after a Macro shoot outing , my body will be aching too ... Old liao la ...
