If it's under warranty, don't see why they cannot service it ? ... and they will not recover the data for you. As this is a backup, is there a need to recover the data on it ? |

Do you have another copy of your data in your computer ? It highly recommended to have 2 backup copy nowadays. Do Samsung warranty 1 to 1 exchange for chip failure ? Can they repair the drive ? Here are some options found from somewhere in the net forum : - 1/ Jaben Networks http://www.jaben.net/ (they do data recovery), 2/ CBL Data. ( pay premium ) - http://www.cbltech.com/ 3/ ibas http://www.ibas.com.sg/ @+65 629 65131 4/ Data Savers http://www.datasavers.com.sg/. ( I think is the same as 3/. Special rate for Student and Seagate partner ) Here is the trial software that one can download. ( if you can get the chip repaired. ) http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/data-recovery-downloads/ Good Luck |

Are you saying the svc center willing to repair your hdd ? but at this moment you not willing cause you want to recover the data in it. "BACKUP" means duplicate copy of original right ? |

Service center do hardware warranty only. Data warranty is not provided. And as Thomas mentioned, clean room recovery can hit 1k. But have you fully used up the 160gb or partially like 60gb? The charges are calculated mainly by the amount of data recovered. |
