I having a terrible problem with dust in my camera body. If I send for servicing, I just need to walk in, take queue no. and show my warranty card would do right (I think all the SOP stuff)? How long does this normally take to clean the camera body?

Thanks.

you can try cleaning it yourself first. SSC would charge you and prob take 3-5 days.

Make sure you don't have the fan running:

1. use onboard flash (no need hotshoe flash), set f/16 (good enough), manual focus on a sheet of white clean paper, shoot and note where are the dust spots.
2. remove the body cap/ lens. face the camera DOWN
3. use a blower to get as much dust out as possible
4. put in a fully-charged batt, navigate menu to "clean sensor" (can't recall the menu option) but it'd basically lift the mirror
5. use a blower again
6. put lens back on (poewr off and on)
7. use onboard flash (no need hotshoe flash), set f/16 (good enough), manual focus on a sheet of white clean paper, shoot and compare with earlier shot.
8. if spots/ stains still exist, use the DIY dry-swab method:

- but a strip of card (like those you get as flyers in your mailbox) the width of the sensor (estimate would do), length abt 20cm long.
- fold it in half on the short end so you get a stiff folded strip of card
- take a piece of lens tissue (make sure its NOT facial tissue, and for lens tissue, make sure its the type that doesn't shred or leave fibres behind), place it across the card strip's fold, tuck the ends on the inside, fold card.
- now you have a dry swab
- again, left the sensor through the camera's menu, and in ONE direction (usually i do it top down) wipe the sensor.
- don't worry, there is a glass that protects the sensor. so that's what you're actually cleaning.
- just don't apply any liquid (though i must confess to dabbing a drop of lens cleaning fluid before, when i had to remove a stubborn stain once).

Err... I tried using a blower, but it made the matter worst. It was just dots in my picture (when I set f from 10 or more), but now, there is dust appear in my viewfinder (though not appear in my picture).

I was told, Sony servicing for cleaning is free when still under warranty.

Think, just sent for cleaning the camera body before I make anymore mistakes...

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

If you have already registered online (locally), and they have your record, it is fine, just bring the camera. You might want to leave your CF/MS card, batteries, grip and lens at home, because they are not necessary for sensor cleaning. Put on a body cap. Bring your warranty card/receipt if want to be doubly safe, or if yours is not local set.

Oh yeah.. Make sure, your issue is properly taken down...

1) Sensor dirty, need cleaning & 2) viewfinder dirty as well.

wah.. sounds like you blew the dust up the prism, yup, that would require the svc ctr to clean. or live with it if you know its not on your sensor. but if its under warranty and they do it for free, why not? in future just be careful abt where you change lenses. always face the camera DOWN, block the wind with your back, and give priority to mounting the lens/ body cap on the camera, not the lens.

i've seen many ppl change lenses, coddle them but leave the camera exposed - all this in very public places.

Sent it for cleaning. At the counter, the person say would not take more than a week to return the a350 back. However, I asked about the fee for this service if warranty over, and the answer was (S) $60! I think, I need to learn how properly clean it myself.

SG$60/- is a small fee to pay over the risk of DIY with anything needed more than just blower :P
It's not very often tat sensor cleaning is needed. Do wat Tiggerhappy suggested during lens change, tat's a very good practice :)

That's exactly 1 week.
The turnaround time is back to normal then.

Enjoy!
