![]() He is one of us. Alphadslr Nick: P.3 Real name : Terry Year in photography: DSLR Since 2007 Camera: A900, Minolta Dynax 7D, Dynax 7 & Maxxum 7xi Lenses: CZ 1680, 85 F1.4 / Sony 35 F1.4 G / Minolta Beercan, 100 F2.8 Soft Focus, 135 F2.8, 200 F2.8 APO HS / Sigma 24-135 Favorite lens: Minolta 135mm F2.8 Moto for photography: Ask And U Shou' Received Personal website: http://terrychua.multiply.com/ First to start, I would like to thank Alphadslr forum for giving me this honour. I'm very happy to be part of the Alpha family fill with wonderful members like Willis, Peter, Richard, CJ, TH, brand and the list just goes on............... Without all their kind knowledge and experience sharing, most likely I'm still lost out there not knowing what I'm shooing and without any direction. My photography journey start way back 8 years ago with a Sony Cybershot P7 after getting my FIRST full bonus. Back then, it's really just POINT & SHOOT......taking anything that's nices, snapping non-stop without wondering how the shoot could be improve. Finally when Sony jump into the DSLR market with the A100, I decide to give it a try as the grip fits me very well during late 2007 . But once into the DSLR world, I discover that photography was so much more and a photo is not just as simple as just snaping it. From the start I love to capturing expressions and candid, at such I jump straight into shooting event/wedding being 2nd photographer/assistant. But within a year, I upgraded to A700 thanks to a fellow bro here posioning me while I'm buying his lens ![]() ![]() As I process very very slowly in events & wedding photography, I find myself having a growing interests in taking portrait and less of candid. However, I'm not very willing to join paid shoot as to learn from scratch and not depending on others to set the idea for me. Then I got to know someone who offer me to join his TFCD and with this push, kick start everything ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Photo-Album Theme : TFCD Credit to Felicia, Taken By Minolta 50/1.7 Credit to Felicia, Taken By Sony 1870 Kit LensFelicia was my first TFCD model intro by friend. I still remember using 1870 kit lens & 50/1.7 for the shoot with a bit of stress worrying about my CMI photo. But it's always fun shooting pretty ladies, like which guy don't like ladies' attention After a few outing, I gather some confidences and started asking ladies on my own for TFCD which surprisingly results postively Credit to Wyelin & Daphaine, Taken By Minolta 50/1.7A lot of my shoots then were all direct front center framing, fails to explore other angles and not making use of the surrounding. Plenty were just sit, smile and shoot. I could take more than a hundred shoots for each lady with 80% just smiley. Lacking in knowledge of poses and wide-angle also limits my shoot to just half-body onward Not forgetting the effort I put in PP was not there. Credit to Cheryl & Jovin, Taken By Minolta 50/1.7Slowly with more practice/reading/looking, I try to add "feel" to my shoot instead of just smiley but that was still not enough. Even for TFCD, concept/theme are needed to make it more meaningful and selection of background cannot be overlook. Fun it may be but a certain effort of photography had to be deliver during the shoot as to be fair to the ladies when forkout their valueable time. There's a need to guide the ladies to the image i want and every photo i'm giving them should be of portfolio quality if possible. At such, I try to picture the image in my mind, makes my shutter counts and considering the output first before snapping It's the quanlity tat counts, no longer quantity. Credit to Nicole, Taken By CZ 85/1.4Luckily even with my newbie skill, I'm still able to get TFCD but unlucky for my wallet with BBB hitting me. Finally buy my first brand new lens which is the CZ 85/1.4 Deadly lens for portrait, never reget buying it Then again having a gem in hand, it's also time to push myself harder and not doing injustice to the lens or any lady. Credit to Rachel, Willis's Workshop 2008 & MUA Patricia. Taken By CZ 1680Here come's the turning point, attending Master Willis's workshop. Open me to a whole new world, learning more ways of PP, exploring angles to find a lady's sweet spot and planning/doing a proper shoot. Through the workshop I also understand that no matter how well a shoot may be taken, there's still ways to make it better and PP is to address to that issue The amount of work/planning behind each shoot really makes the photographer proud when the photo turnout great. Credit to Nicole, Taken By Sony 35/1.4 GEquip with the wonderful knowledge from the workshop, I start to take notice of the planning process for my TFCD. Gone were the days when I just tell the ladies to bring two outfits and meetup. There's a lot more communication now. From choosing location, all the outfits, makeup, hairdo to even the shoes they r wearing, every details counts and would be decided my me. During the shoot, I also had to spot the lady's best angle n look. After the shoot, comes the PP work which could take hours to days for just one photo. With all that, I finally managed to stuggle out my first concept shoot "Viva Flamenco!"........... It may just be a TFCD but my own creation which I'm very happy with till now Credit to Ruchin, Taken By Minolta 135/2.8With the arrival of A900, Minolta 135/2.8 replace CZ 85 as my favourite lens. The smooth bokeh with decent sharpness and light weight just makes this lens a must during all shoot. Learning never stop as I went on exploring PP using layering/framing and transfering through difference software. Hard work and effort with some stress at times, but it would pays off with a wonderful end product Credit to Elisa, Taken By Minolta 135/2.8~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Closing in to a year into portrait.......plan for more concept shoots were under-going and hopfully able to create more of my own style. Work of Willis & Brandon had always been my inspiration and wish one day I'm able to move toward those standard I'm a strong believer of prime lenses as IMO, the need to move more, helps me to discover more angles. Not forgeting the bokeh and of course, lower price and lighter weight ![]() Other than that, I'm still very much a newbie so not in the position to advise anyone but many had been asking me how I get all those TFCD. The reply is simple........Asking and u shou' received First have a portfolio, then just had to be more thick skin and ask nicely.Behaviour and attitude matters a lot during shoot, as people would be looking at that to judge your charactor. Maintening good reputation and delivering what's promise would be the key to another TFCD shoot. End of the day both parties had to gain from the shoot so do take it seriously and mainten a very clear line between model/photographer. Hope what I had share would be of some use. Look foward to sharing more TFCD here and let us grown together, shoot more and make Alphadslr's TFCD gallery Like.No.Other |

wow.. can see your improvement from the very beginning.. just keep believing in yourself and put in the hard work that is required. From your journey, guess you can now share the pains of putting a shoot together, haha... like i said, the shooting part is the easiest.. :p |
