To setup the email trigger for your account:
Just go to preference, select "Email & Subscription Settings" and Topic/Forum subscription alert type as "Alerts by email"..

For thread tracking, you need to manually enable it for each thread. Once you're viewing a thread, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Locate the option "Track Topic" which appears to the left of the Board Time.

From the page that loads you can select the notification type you want.

#2 bridge look effective on the miniature effects

#4 not really because of the tree trunk, I think if you avoid the tree trunk it will looks better as a miniature.

Haha Doc's out with his "walkabout" AND "kit" lens ..

Somehow.. the tilt shift "miniature" does not really appeal to me leh..

The blurring is like too sudden, one line across, how do I say it??
Maybe a bit slightly graduated blurring would look good?

reminds me .. similar to the Lensbaby effect..


edit/add:
Maybe the blurring has to do with the relative distance to the in focus subject? i.e. those in same line of plane be in focus whereas those in front and back blurred?
