Dear Alphadslrians,

I'm currently using my A300 and very happy with almost all aspects except for the noise at levels above ISO800. Since Nikon and Cannon is coming out with so many new models, my heart is slightly shaken due to the fact that D90's noise control at higher iso is superb. Not sure about the two new Nikon and Cannon (5000d) models to replace D60 though. But Nikon and Cannon certainly have a wider range of quality lens.

Any comments?

These two cam body no IS built as you aware of it. So you need to get your lens with IS built. That the disadvantage, and also as I know some of the N & C user swap camp because of that.

Either than that I shall say yes. I also intend to get a Cannon 50D for my astro purposes.

There will be no perfect system. You can always try it out and in the end you will just be 'system hopping' as each system is launching newer and better bodies. C's color are awful IMO. Nikon is not too bad but no IS. Have you tried running your images thru a NR software? The pictures could be much, much better.

Having a wider range of glasses doesn't mean that you're getting every single one right? Besides the 600mm range I don't see what else is Sony lacking.

Think this has been discussed many times over.

How about this? Try to zoom down on the possible models that you will be likely to get IF you were to jump, THEN decide whether it's really a better choice, or it's not worth the jump.

ISO is definitely one of the more useful features, but know that all things being equal, a stabilized image will be better than an ISO compensated image. It may be possible though, that you can achieve something even what the stabilizer can't give you. Or it may be possible that the stabilized ISO800 image can do better than an ISO1600 image. OK I know i'm making less and less sense :P

All cameras have their pros and cons. I'd try to make the best choice, then adapt to whatever have been chosen.

i am very happy with current system. it has a great IS system. i dont shoot any above ISO 400. pretty good lens collection. the only drawback is the flash system is not as good as Nikon.
if you are complaining about lens range. the only difference is prime lenses. zoom range are abt the same

To me for my purpose usage, I don't required an image stablization as I shoot more on long exposure which required me higher ISO to compensate for exposure timing. For example shooting at 5 mins at ISO800 and compare to 2.5mins at ISO1600 or 1.2mins at ISO3200. So what will you expact your noise level at this 3 different shoot out at a night sky?

well. just dont shoot above iso800 and u will be a happy alpha user. u can always postprocess away the noise. at the end of the day, it all depends on the type of photograph u are taking and also ur tolerance with noise appearing in ur picture. increase in iso also will degrade ur picture quality.

If you post this question in alphadslr.com, sure ask you to stay with SONY DSLR.
If you post in Nikon forum.. well, Nikon DSLR will be the answer.

I think the answer lies in you.. what you want. There is no perfect system.. it's just a system to suit you.
Canon/Nikon no IS build in body.. but their AF is faster..
Sony got CZ AF lens hor... and G lens as well.
Are these important to you?

Noise.. If you don't like noise, don't get SONY.
