becaurse now its digital, we can do stupid stuffs like zoom in 100% and complain its noisy and not sharp..but ask yrself, DO you even print 4R bo..????

In film, u only shoot when you know that the pic is worth shooting at as there's a cost to print...so i think its better to know what the hell you are shooting AT then to what you are shooting WITH!..

Still there's no perfect brand to me..once you try them all loh...you can always short hand the bad points at any brand. Anyone who wanta knows the shortcuts to the Dos and Donts about photography can always PM for a coffee around west area when free...i am NO PRO but help with simple stuffs.
Yes, bro its really concern me as I need to print it in 8R size for my submission. That's why a bit concern about the noise level.

Dear Alphadslrians,

I'm currently using my A300 and very happy with almost all aspects except for the noise at levels above ISO800. Since Nikon and Cannon is coming out with so many new models, my heart is slightly shaken due to the fact that D90's noise control at higher iso is superb. Not sure about the two new Nikon and Cannon (5000d) models to replace D60 though. But Nikon and Cannon certainly have a wider range of quality lens.

Any comments?
Wow.. i negelected this thread since is the most commonly seen kind of question which somehow fizzles off.. before another one shoot similar question again.. haha..

Well.. the BIG question here is WHY YOU NEED TO SWITCH?

I suppose ISO only reason? since you mentioned "very happy with almost all aspects except.."

Can the ISO noise issue be resolved in other means with 'your kind' of photography? Or shoot < ISO800?

Why people shoot RAW? Why there is Noise reduction software around? Why is there even photoshop or photo editing software around?
Answer is that you can be more in control of how you process your picture.

Nowadays photo post processing is a very important aspect of very good photography.

If you shoot in RAW or cRAW only, you can set AWB, with NR off, DRO OFF and everything else standard. Because in RAW, all the AWB, DRO, NR does not really matter, have no effect. And simply because all those setting can be controlled by software in PC. The only thing you have to make sure is that you do have CORRECT setting (aperture, shutterspeed, metering) in getting right exposure, and that picture correctly focused. You cannot do much using Software for picture is Out of Focus or Blown highlight/shadow or poorly composed.

Back to the user, one has to understand what your camera can and cannot do, understand it's limit. maximise it's best potential to get the right composed 'RAW' picture. Then you process.. When you hit it's limitation, and you know what you need, then you 'UPGRADE'. Then only you can consider higher model of same brand or "SWITCH' because you know what you want by now.

If your intention is to look for dslr that can shoot JPG and be usable print straightaway, by all means look for one that can do the job. Somehow I have little doubt in finding the most perfect camera without being too $$$.

And when you do make sure you find a camera that not only satisfy your ISO 'issue' but also make sure you are "very happy with almost all aspect". No exception. Otherwise there is no reason to jump, unless you are rich :)

bro Dom.. during my working days at IT show, I tested the A350 at ISO1600 and printed out in 4R using Sony Picture Station on the spot. Which the noise is hardly noticeable.

A350 at ISO1600

To me, the below spec is the minimum i ask for a DSLR (I treat myself as a Photography hobbyist)
- 10 mega pixel (I do not do large prints)
- Accetable ISO noise performance (like A700)
- Single sensitive double-x auto focus sensor (just like A700's)
- 5 fps multiple burst (I don't really shoot fast-pace objects)
- Dedicated buttons for important functions (I do not like to dig into the menu for a simple fuction)

So, do make a list of your photography needs and whether your needs is practical or not (based on many brother's comments over at this thread). I bet you can make a rightful choice for yourself.

Just a side note: I always prefer brighter lens than boosting ISO. I prefer the result from the GLASS than from the SOFTWARE. Many of bright lenses does not come with high price tag. My favorite lenses are, Tamron 17-50 F2.8. Minolta 50mm F1.7, Sigma 24 F2.8 (Good and tag sharp lens!) All these lenses I mentioned does not exceed S$500 in the second hand market.

guys, its ok to pass comments in jest but please be respectful to all, that's the one key thing that sets this forum apart from others. we don't hide behind nicks and flame one another but meet up at gatherings to foster friendships and share knowledge. for the times we don't meet in person, this is the next best place for us to "meet".

if you have a comment to share or an opinion to air, please make sure its constructive.

Guys, don't scare our bro DomDom away... Let's be a bit more objective about it... I guess, bliss cannot be gotten usually with your first system - but I think, some patience and training can make you utilise your camera to a better degree. Because changing a system, in the act itself = lost investment (sell low, buy another at high). I've had similar thoughts before, but I wasn't been able to change because I don't want to lose part of my investment. I had to live with what I have, and still be able to achieve results with whatever I have.

For the record, I'm poisoned about the 5D when I first started out, then D90... so yeah, the poisoning never really stops. ;)

Cameras are just imaging tools for that matter, the one that mattered the most is you.

i noe everyone has his own opinion, question or view... that's why i have have the entitlement on saying mine... hahaha
As an strong advocator of "self-opinions",i have no qualms with expressed thoughts, regardless of the tone in play,as long as it is of substances and constitutes an objective cause.

But the line is drawn when you start hurling personal attacks at another fellow forum members.
Do not even attempt to blur the distinction between "tone" and "attacks",but to help,i would recommend you to drop by the nearest bibliothèque for a good dictionary that expresses the differences between "opinions" and "insults" since your post i qouted,is neither an opinion nor view,or question but an insult to somebody.
