Hi, I am a A200 newbie here, still familiarizing to shoot bokeh althou I understand its limited with the max aperture of my kit lens. Like to find out how to achieve bokeh if

1) Compose the person in the corner of the picture? Can I focus at her eyes and while holding shutter halfway, recompose the pic or zoom out and still get bokeh?

2) how to get bokeh for 2 or more persons in a picture?(I am totally clueless on this one)

Appreciate and thanks to all bros who can advice

1. Recompose, as you said you can always recompose after focusing done with half press and hold the shutter release. Not really understand what you trying to ask for the " recompose the pic or zoom out and still get bokeh"

2. For bokeh... get closer to subject.... longer zoom... bigger aperture... if cannot achieve bokeh why not find a better background? or you die die want to make bokeh another solution can help which "PHOTOSHOP".

I was asking if after I zoom in close on the person and focus on the eyes holding my shutter, den I zoom out or recompose the pic... is the bokeh effect still there or lost due to the zooming out or recompositioning?

If there are 2 or more ppl I am shooting, where shall I focus to get bokeh background with all of the ppl sharp in the photo?

1) better if u just compose her on the corner i think... cuz if u zoom in focus (i'm assuming you're focusing using the center spot) den recompose the shot, you might end up with the focus point being slightly behind the model.

2) provided both of them are standing on the same tangent, focus on either of them can liao... but adviseable to keep your DOF in check... other than that i dunno what you asking liao hahaha

Hi kennmail , i myself is a newbie too but when using the kit 18-70mm , if i want subject with bokeh , i will zoom to 70mm all the way to shoot . Here , you need to know the distance between you & subject/s . Try out a few shots & you will be able to get the bokeh you want , though you cannot expect so much from it ...

There are 2 issues here.. Recomposition and Bokeh

1) For best result, adjust to the correct zoom, then only Focus and recompose. Try not to zoom after you get your focus.
Make sure your AF focus mode is not "C" or "A" (see the dial at front near the lens mount.) Use "S" for Single. This is to prevent the camera to focus on something else after you re-compose.

2) To get 2 persons (or more) in focus and yet Bokeh for background, you need to know a bit about Depth of Field which is determined by the aperture you use.

a) find a suitable location where the background is FAR FAR behind the group you are shooting. [for Bokeh]
b) You need to stand CLOSE to the people you shooting. [for Bokeh]
c) Use the tele end of your lens (in this case 70mm). [for Bokeh]
d) DOF - You need to use correct aperture that can get the people in focus. Best is, if all the people you shooting is horizontally at same distance to you. If there is one fella standing behind another, you probably need to try different aperture and see from LCD if all the people is sharp. Start from F3.5 and stop down until you get all the people sharp. eg. if F3.5 the front people is sharp and back is not sharp, use F4 and so on. Always focus on the (eye of) people in front. [for people sharpness]

Note that it will be very difficult to get full body of people in sharp and yet background bokeh out. Unless the back ground is really far away. You get better bokeh result standing closer shooting the half upper body.

I forgot 1 thing...

At 70mm your kit lens will start at F5.6 (not F3.5).
