Sorry, newbie question. I thought it is for UV filter? Does a HD filter is a UV filter?

Good info.

Surprise finding here.
1. Hoya HMC is good. No need to spend extra$ on Hoya SHMC or Hoya Pro1 version unless you need the slim type.
2. There are lots of talk saying Kenko Pro1 is the same as Hoya Pro1. Proven here, it is NOT the same.
3. B+W is disappointing on UV filtering, very similar to Kenko Pro1 characteristic.
4. Heliopan. Pay premium for logo only.

I dun feel so.....
I done a test using Minolta 200mm mounted on tripod shooting at same object under same setting/lightings with the fellowing,

- Hoya Pro1 Digital UV
- Hoya HMC UV
- Tokina UV-Guard
- CZ MC Protector
- Nikon L37
- No Filter

I can confidently say only Pro1 Digital & MC Protector suffer the least loss in light transmittion and sharpness comparing to shoot without filter and the worst being Tokina. The extra $$$ is surely worth since everyone is talking about sharpness now. I personally feel Kenko Pro1 Digital Protector and CZ MC Protector are my favourite filters now, dun see the need of UV on digital body.

Facts online might not be so true.......still best to do it ourselves. Dun write off Heliopan yet.....do some research and see wat type of lens are they design for. They have a filter design for digital camera with very interesting coating :)
