I saw that the new lenses from Sony which cater for APS-C format and nothing to replace Minolta long zooms or primes e.g. 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 600mm.

Anyone has compared the pro and cons between 300mm f/4, 70-300G and 70-400G at 300mm end? I chose these lens between as they are about the same size (while 300mm f/2.8 is simply a different class altogether).

Hi Ongl !

I had always wanted a longer Zoom like 70-300mm or that 70-400mm . Did not consider that 70-400mm at all because of the color , Silver ... While the 70-300mm , maybe its just too common everywhere or after all , i already have that 2 whites 70-200mm & the 300mm f4 , so did not go think of those 2 .

I do not know how well those 2 Zooms perform but i can say that the 300mm f4 is definitely nice & sharper compared to the rest . Would suggest you get the 300mm rather than buying the rest .

Though it may not be a right comparison, but someone had done some comparison test between Minolta 400mmF4 and Sony 70-400mm.

Comparision test Sony 70-400 vs.Minolta 400mm F4

Thanks for the article and opinions so far. As Sony released 70-300 and 70-400, would be great to understand the quality of each. 70-300 for example is so light compared 70-400 *cheaper by half too*, thus if the picture quality is the same then no reason to get 70-400 other than the extra range.

Photo quality at 300mm for the 2 G lens from Sony is about the same.
The 70-300mm is lighter - so, I'll go for the 70-300mm G.

Btw, 400mm prime and 70-400mm, may go for the new G.

I do feel that 70-200G is still OK when handheld. 70-300/ would be as well OK, but may shake due to being light. 70400, on the other hand, still shake if handheld even the weight is the most. Tripod would be essential for the last one.
