My WD elements 3.5" external HDD is always plugged in to the computer..and earlier on it just suddenly spoilt .. Cannot be detected by the computer anymore.. I just hope its the power adaptor that is spoilt .. and not the HDD that crashed.. will really sucks to lose all the photos inside..that would be 2 years of most recent photo gone.... Didn't think it will happen to me.. so did not have a backup solution.. Well..maybe just a reminder for fellow bros to backup your data today..

Suggest get a Raid-1 HDD for photos. I am using a Raid-1 system for my photos storage/archiving. At least 1 drive goes, I can still get my data back from the mirrored drive. A Raid-1 system of 2tb costs under $400 now. http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/products/detail.cgi?country=sg&code=2&id=327 That's the one I am using for my photos archive. 2 x 1TB drives in it, and under Raid 1 mode, I have 1TB effective storage space and the extra 1TB is my mirror. Its something of a backup's backup.

thanks for the link and recommendation! the buffalo looks good.. like already set up in a nice package..and $400 is quite reasonable.. which is roughly twice the price of a 1TB drive.. just bought another external HDD at sim lim ..Will wait till the next pc show to look at these raid solutions.. meanwhile need to do manual backup.haha |

Interesting... currently I'm running a 0.5 tb raid 1 system... I feel like getting another 1TB mirrored system... the price seems reasonable... considering that the previous 0.5 tb raid one cost me almost 500 liao... |

A lot of mainboard have Raid function build-in using Sata connection, consider my two years old mid-range mainboard already have it. So two internal 1TB harddisk would just cost u under $300/-, it's a cheaper yet faster way

According to my June SRP price, 1TB DriveStation Duo is $299, 2TB DriveStation Duo is $399. I believe you will want more space for the PSDs. . . |

Hi, Brothers of Alpha be very careful with your hard disc, now a day due to cost competition there is many changes in the industries , many process was eliminate and cost saving. Ideally is to have additional disc for back up. Looking into my recent case, even the CF card corrupted that have seldom happened before, for your information I have one Seagate Hard disc Extreme II 1.5TB spoilt within less than a week. So my advise is more is better.Just be safe. |
