on the other hand if there anything to make u feel good ...have a good look at the poses and portraiture subforum at CS.. from that u can see a wide variety of pics taken with various cameras...u can see for yrself that the quality of the output is usually not determine by the brand of the camera but by the man that behind the camera.

Eh.. What's you buying a DSLR for?

Taking pictures so that your friends like it? Instead of you liking your own photos?

Be happy shoot what you like!

Maybe your friends a bit biased haha.. know it's a canon and it's she.

Thanks to those who replied, I have learnt alot in this thread. Just wanted to let it out, and this is the only place where I get friendly reminders that the end results depend on "the man behind the camera" and the importance of learning the right technique. Meanwhile, I just need to shoot more on my own, away from those of other camps. I doubt my camera will be appearing in front of my friends until I regain enough confidence.

This is like asking why go with Ford or Chevy when in Singapore Honda or Toyota is a safe bet. So if one has a ford and liking it a lot, he has to give up as Toyota and Honda control > 50% of car market? :-)

Written this so many times, Camera and Lenses play important element in photography but framing/composition/skills makes the other half. I can't help to drool over Canon 5DmkII but then again, I am happy with my setup.

I do think Sony has not done a great job in marketing its own DSLR product or A-mount. National geographics always feature Olympus and Canon pictures, but nothing from Sony... The brand awareness is severely lacking within the mainstream for A-mount. Most of my friends in Facebook who started DSLR, 100% go either to C or N... No one bothers to go for A-mount. Talk about Singapore is very expensive, look at Indonesia. A900 body cost S$5000 over and not to mention the lenses. Whilst, Nikon and Canon prices are reasonable compared to overseas prices. Who wants to go with Sony then in that country, Sony lost one of the developing mass market already.

Can't make it this Saturday. I'm abit embarrassed to ask any questions, because I know I have yet to get the basics right yet.

Normally scenery, landscape. I like to try out portraits but my housemates are not very cooperative with those paparazzi comments. Well, maybe because I'm not a girl and they don't feel comfortable.

Actually I realised when my friends do their "research" on which camera to buy, they only research on Canon and Nikon. They ask the sales representative which is the best and they were told Canon, so they assume Canon is the best. Only thing I do know is Canon is expensive. I hate the fact that Sony is ignored, never once appeared in their mind and likewise for other camera-makers like Pentax and Olympus.
