Hi Linnl.71 Your exposure on the flower is spot on. The background a bit distracting. Perhaps take a (or 2) step to right, might solve the problem. Composition wise: Instead of shooting the flower dead in the centre, it might be good idea to place the flower slightly to the bottom left, so the you get more of the flower 'tentacles' on top and at same time clear the 'empty' spaces on left. Idea is not to have to much empty spaces on left while you can avaoid chopping off the "tentacles". |

Ah yes, that's right! I will take note. Thanks for your constructive criticisms. After what you said, I have to agree with you. Anyway, any idea why is the picture rather small? How do I post it in a bigger size? I didn't alter the size of it at all though. I uploaded it in flickr and posted it with the flickr link as well. |

Flickr uploads with a few automatic resizing, including thumbnails. In your flickr, you can choose your original size. You need to click "all sizes" and from there choose the size you want. |

Ya I think so too! Should've shifted slightly more to the left. Anyway how do you apply the rule of the thirds on your subject without having spaces around? I mean if I want my subject to be on the left instead of dead centre, wouldn't the right side have empty spaces? Am i doing something wrong :S? |

choose your key subject - if your subject is say, the flower, then which part of the flower strikes you (or that you want to strike the viewer) the most? the rule of thirds is not cast in stone, there are times you can choose to break it. for the second shot, i'd place the flower closer to the top (say top 1/3) IF i wanted to either emphasise the stalk or there was something interesting to include. otw maybe go close (for that you need a macro set up or lens) and fill the frame with the flower itself and choose your focus on a key part plus, use a shallow depth of field to bring added focus to your key. |
