Hi all, Passing on the opportunity to bros wanting to build up their portfolio in AD wedding photography. Was approached by someone, but I might not be able to do it since I have started school and internship. So just helping them find another photographer who is available on 26 Dec 2009 out of goodwill. For those interested, please make sure you can commit to full day on 26th Dec 2009, Saturday. The infos I have: Normal day timing, wont start super early. Dinner at suntec. Send me a PM if you are interested, with -your contact number -a link to your portfolio if you have -Your experience level in AD (first time, did a few for relatives before, did many weddings before, etc) I will consolidate and forward the contacts to the couple, and the couple will liase with the photographers directly. Cheers, =) |

bro, i suggest you talk to the couple and make sure they understand the meaning of tfcd. if i may sound blunt, there are two possibilities: either they are looking for a free photographer (but expecting some standard) OR they don't realise the potential to mess up their big day (not meeting their expectations). AD photographers who can deliver work that's up to scratch won't likely do it for free so this is the paradox. It doesn't mean that tfcd (free) is no good, but its a CHANCE they are taking. i hope they are not fussy... |

thanks for your concern bro..appreciate it..no worries about being upfront I (did) will advise the couple accordingly again... But on the other hand I don't want to make it my "personal responsibility".. afterall i am only doing them a favour ..but I will advise them of the possible "consequences" again.. its up to them to choose their own photographers and be prepared for cock-ups..but I think any tfcd photographers must also protect themselves by stating their own conditions before accepting the assignment. I am not posting this in "the other" forum cause i have seen how enthusiastically the people there defend their market. That is not to say the bros here dont take pride in our work. But its because i view tfcd ADs as a chance to polish up one's skills before accepting the $ and responsibilities in paid work... I think there will be bros out there who is really interested to do wedding photography and thus this would be a good chance... I myself have done a few AD tfcds.. and have also done 2nd PG to a WPJA wedding photographer before for some ADs... but I have rejected him paying me until I feel I am good enough to accept the money.. haha..perhaps like you said "AD photographers who can deliver work that's up to scratch won't likely do it for free" .... but by doing more weddings.. i will get there someday.. Doing tfcd does not mean I don't take pride in my works.. i take pride in my works by shooting the way I would if i am paid.. So any bros who feel the same way feel free to give me your details and I will forward to the couple... if at the end of the day nobody is interested, then I will just ask the couple to get realistic and hire someone instead.. I quite like seeing happy couples and capturing moments on their wedding day.. can take reference for my own wedding next time too.. much like how macro photographers won't expect their insects to pay them $.. i am fine with not getting paid for AD photography.. (perhaps until when wedding photography becomes my ricebowl).. studies is getting heavier..so for now wedding photography will be on the backburner.... =) |

its a catch-22 situation. as we've said, TFCD/ unpaid doesn't mean poor standard. but generally it refers to a lack of experience. hence the risk involved in something as important as a wedding that doesn't have any re-shoot possibilities. hit or miss. for ppl to do tfcd/ unpaid unassignments, they shd tag along with the main who shd be paid/ experienced to know what to do properly. that's the safest way to OJT. not go solo - unless the couple are like my wife and i, when we got married we didn't bother with photography but her uncle who's very experienced, along w a few friends (old hands at ADs) took it upon themselves to shoot for us. if the couple are not fussy or perfectionists or chin chye/ bo-chap, then its a perfect opportunity for an inexperienced aspiring AD photographer to learn the ropes. |
