Practical zoom lense; Need advice on which to get

Hi guys,

I need some advice on which zoom lense to get. I'm looking for a versatile zoom lense that will offer wide angle to decent telephoto zoom, budget is a key consideration so I'll have to rule out CZ and G lenses. :-/

Was looking at the 18-250mm but I think I may not be be able to maximise the use to 250mm, since I don't usually carry tripod when I go out with my A330, and my hands would probably be shaking like mad at 250mm zoom. So I'm now looking at the 105mm zoom instead. Shortlisted 2, the 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 and 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5.

Any advice on which will be more recommended? Or is the 18-250mm lense more recommended? :Thanks:

Hi guys, thanks for your feedback. The 16-105mm f/3.5-5 lense sounds attractive! But I'm contemplating the 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 lense again :go-around: Is it worth considering? Any idea how fast does it jump to f/5 compared to the former? Such a dilemma :banghead:

for me id rather have a 16-105 coupled with 70-300 f4-5.6 around there. at least at 300, the long end is still faster, below f6..a combination of both would be good enough.

i am very happy with the 12-250
if you are shooting outdoors and in ok light (not good but not bad), the lens works well.
Does not hunt unless very dark.
Climbs up the max aperture quite quickly, slows down drastically after 5.6 (100+mm).
Its my travel lens

Max aperture for SONY 18-250mm f3.5-6.3

18-23mm f3.5
24-34mm f4
35-54mm f4.5
55-74mm f5
75-149mm f5.6
150-250mm f6.3

Covers a wide range. Handy if you only want to bring one lens. Will be interesting to use this lens on the A550 (with good high ISO). :)
