SDHC is generally cheaper compare to MS for the same capacity and speed rating.

However, if you have multiple DSLR body there might be an advantage of using MS as it allows swapping memory card around and don't have to buy so many different spares . Not sure why SONY now decides to use SDHC on A550 like C & N, which means all lower range will probably move to it as well. A700, A850 & A900 uses both CF and MS, which I prefer.
thanks tankm,
i suppose that sd card is the way to go for me given the price.

was actually wondering whether the ms card to be used for the a550 wold give it the 7 fps and the sd wouldn't.

would hate to buy a card and realise later that it cannot write fast enough because of it's speed.

alternatively, i get the fastest card avaialble.....
There are a few factors that affect how fast the camera can write to the card:
a. Camera write throughput. Nothing much you can do.

b. Card compatibility with the camera. If the card is not compatible, the actual write speed will be much lower than the rated speed. Kingston card comes to mind, as it's known to be not fully compatible with Alpha camera. Situation may have changed now with the "Elite Pro" and "Ultimate" version. Didn't try them anymore since my early days bad experience with Kingston on the A100. Now using Sandisk.

c. Card write throughput speed. Need to check the spec for this as some manufacturer quote read speed and not the write speed. Write speed generally lower than read speed. To ensure the card is not the bottle neck, just multiply the typical file size x fps which gives you the write throughput the card need to handle. The closer you card throughput to the calculated value, the longer you can sustain the continuous shooting assuming the camera can write it fast as well.

sorry oot abit
correct me if i am wrong, A900 got high buffer is it? I was trying to burst and the fps doesn't seems to drop eventhough I am using a 133x. It only takes time to finish writing on the CF after I stop. only the writing speed is slow. I think I took more than 40 shots or maybe more, cannot remember the exact number. But my D7D will show sign of lagging in fps after certain number

Looks like so for JPEG. You will hit the buffer limit when shooting raw around 13 to 14 frames. See A900 detail result from dpreview http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydslra900/page13.asp

Manage to try out Kingston Elite Pro 16GB 133x on A700 and A850. Looks good. Speed is slightly faster than the Sandisk Ultra II but slower than the Sandisk Extreme III (30mb/s).

OT also... Try out Lexar's Pro UDMA 300x...
Shot with it today along side Sony's HX8 ms pro duo.
No fight! Lexar 300x really so much faster is writing as well as reading, both in camera (A850) as well as on my PS3!

no ot here way2see,
this is type of info i was hoping for. i reckon for 7fps, the bottleneck would be the writing to the card. hmmmmmm... and the sony hx8 is their top of the line memory stick?
