Hi photography lovers out there. I am new to this hobby really need some advice on choosing a camera. I love to take scenic pictures (sunrise, moon, clouds, skyscraper, etc), was thinking of getting a mid range camera then invest on lenses. Any recommendation on any particular models (Canon/Nikon) suitable for me? Really grateful for all guidance |

any camera can take those photos you mentioned. There is no particular models. Even a P&S can take those things. The only problem is the person behind the camera. Sorry to say that no camera is designed to do specific task. It is how the user make full use of the camera. Regarding suitability, I think the best way is you should go out and try all the available brands. and buy what your budget allows. mid-range you might be looking for APS-C bodies? then I think any 16/17/18mm wide lenses are sufficient. If you want wider (like a Fullframe) then you are looking at 10/11/12mm wide lenses. |

i think you may be better off asking at the canon or nikon forums. like myself, i know too little of other makes to help you. however if it is sony or minolta that you are interested in, i also cannot help you ..........but maybe the experienced bros here can.i am sure however that all camera top brands are good enough if you are new to photography. anyway

Why not consider Sony, Pentax or Olympus instead since Sony provides the sensor to Nikon and all the 3 brands I have mentioned has build in image stabiliser, which I find is very useful since I have shaky hands. |

Since you are here, and we are mainly "Alpha" DSLR users, you should know we would recommend more Sony DSLR for you! Haha... Check out the pictures below, taken using alpha camera. Sunset @ Changi Boardwalk - Sunset Walk Shots was taken by our bro and (IIRC) he is using a A200 with kit-lens when he took the pictures. If you are looking for a DSLR quality picture and do not want all the complexity of handling a DSLR, A230/A330/A380 are good choice. If you prefer a more feature rich camera body, the A500/A550 are good choice. If you have the budget, you can also consider A700, A850 and A900. Edited by lenrek, Sep 22 2009, 12:56 PM.
