Why choose Sony?

Hi all...

I hope I dun get shoot down by comments like Google is your best fren haha

I'm just curious why some people are shying away from Sony, Pentax etc and why some people only swear by C or N...

I've been thinking of getting a DSLR. Initial target was Nikon D90 or Canon 500D, hopefully by year end.
But it seems Sony entry level DSRLS prices are getting more enticing haha
I did played around with one of the Sony DSLRS at IMM Sony Store.
They have these "online" guides when U choose a setting.

I know asking questions like why get a Sony DSLR in this forum will only get mostly positive responses, but I'm sure there will be unbias answers.

So guys and gals.. why should a potential DSLR buyer get a Sony, instead of the C or N?
Anyone regretted buying a Sony? Other den lower resale value or heart ache that your prized DSLR prices have dropped?

Thanks!

To me, Sony DSLR is value for money. Relatively cheap body and good performance. Use your remaining budget to get lenses or books.

Think it's a "chance" for me. I reckon that I could have easily started out with other brands...

But as I went on - the single most important feature for me is that - I can use old lenses from the KM times, for good old flare and other film like looks and, but with Steady Shot inside and with some models like the a850 and a900 that has Micro Adjustment - these old lenses are really worth holding onto now, and are much more relevant even for demanding jobs - if you compare to mounting a Non IS enabled old lens from C or N into a modern body - you don't have IS... and for some cameras from N - you can't even AF because the two lowest models don't have AF motor.

For camera brands that put most of the features on the lens - the problem is that - when they get obsolete and replaced by a newer version, you'd be really in a hard position like what I've described.

Sony might be new to DSLR (but KM definitely is not) - They are the grandmaster of the Digital Sensor - once Canon used Sony sensors, and nowadays, most companies out there use Sony sensors, like Pentax, Nikon etc... with KM DNA flowing in their blood and two separate lines of premium lenses with their own special characteristics - it's reassuring to know that you're in good hands, and things would only get better. ;)

Invest in good lens but not the body as u koe prices of the body can drop as much as $200 for A220 and the A330. Just a 1-2 month time... Tat wat I like about Sony... They are RICH hope Nikon and Canon will fellow their foot step...")

Main selling point would be the super steady shot and also the ability to use Minolta A-mount lens :)

;) It's a Sony :thumbsup1:
At first, I play Sony as it is the only system that has AF Zesis lenses. Now I find it have limited Zeiss lenses for the long side. Also they are very heavy.

Ever wonder, why your picture always comes out strange in colour and tone. :go-around:
The problem is the White Balance or WB. Sony Auto White Balance or AWB is not great either.
But there is one thing all Sony camera have that no brand has in WB. Sony have more refinement or more choices for White Balance control even on low end camera like A100, A200, A300 & etc. Other brand cannot control the WB in-camera by changing the "Kelvin" or do they have some variation for each preset setting like daylight, cloudy, tunsten & etc. They only have it in their Pro series camera. Sony have that and easy to use and can be seen immediately the effects in your next shoots. Yes, everyone have Custom WB but it is harder to use.
:knock: Of course, WB can be done in PP but how do you know the WB set on the computer is the same as what you saw on actual time of shoot ?
If shooting JPEG only, it is a good adjustment on the fly to get the correct colour tone.
Love to use the Sony WB control as it is easy to set. :cheer:
