Hi guys, i am a portrait shooter and i find that my current setup A500+18-55mm+50mm f1.8 is too short for my shooting purposes, what lens can you recommend to me within of budget of $600?
Also, i have this $90 national geographic voucher, how do you guys advise that i spend it?

Emeritus Alphadslr Official Passerby~shooting badly since 2004 and continuing

if u shooting mainly portrait, ur next cheapest upgrade will be the 70-210mm f4 beercan..
55-200 or the 75-300 tele lens alternatively also serve well as a portrait lens at it tele end.

but they came with a limitation as at their tele ed . the f stop is already at f5.6 depending on yr subject/background distance..yr bokeh might vary differently. The smaller the f stop number, the smoother will be the bokeh.

Beercan is no longer in production, you will have to get it 2nd hand. Some will pop up in the Buy/Sell sub-forum once in a while.

I back Mr Light's suggestion about having a light system...

The 50mm 1.8 is a great portrait lens... :D

Beercan is indeed a great lens to have and it cover the tele range that u're lacking :)
Nice sharpness, colour and bokeh at @ $400 which i consider the best value lens around currently, thou it's 2nd hand.

No hurry for lightings, there's lots to learn on that area too.
Focus on what your camera/lenses + beercan can do before stepping ahead.
