welcome BenAWJ, it helps when there are places that u are not able to put ur eyes at the view finder, giving u a different reach... such as performances when u are standing at the back and u can only shoot by lifting ur camera into the air and shoot, or even placing the camera at the lowest level.

hope it helps... :)

hi benawj,

i use a a200....no live view and prefer ovf. having said that i am waiting for a550!!! which has live view.

live view is good when you cannot look thru the ovf all the time and live view presents another way to see the object before taking the shot.

just a noobie too and

:welcome:

Hi Ben, a warm welcome to you.

If you are a beginner who has used a digital camera before, likely is that you will need the live view to compose your pictures. If you have used a film camera, you would likely be familiar with composing using the view finder. Also the live view can be quite useful in some areas (eg. shooting above your head or below your waist situations). So it may be good to have the live view function if you can stretch the budget, besides Sony has the best AF using live view currently. ;)

Yes I have bro. Till date I still do not know how to appreciate live view, hence all my cameras do not have live view.

Hi Ben

Welcome to Alphadslr!

Regarding the liveview, it is a matter of preference, and on certain occassions (like concert) is a nice thing to have. Liveview will definitely be good if you shoot macros (at impossible angles, where your head+camera cannot fit into :)) Liveview also allows you to do framing for shooting at low angle, high above head..

And liveview might pobably be the only option for those late photo hobbyist whose eyesight has not been as good as during younger days (sad to say) ..

Those upgrading from Point and shoot cameras will appreciate the liveview more than SLR or DSLR users.

On normal usage, viewfinder will normally be the way to go (for longer battery life = more shots).

So in conclusion, it's a nice thing to have if you can afford the model that supports it. In any case, without liveview, we can still shoot. After all, photography is a hobby. If certain shot cannot be taken properly or frame well enough ..(because there is no liveview), so be it.. There will be another time . :)

Hi BenAWJ Welcome to alphadslr.

Think of these below :)

How soon in future do you think you will upgrade for camera body and lense?
Are you going to stick to APS-c sensor body or FF?
IF FF body, are you going to buy FF lense for future use? or just DT lense for APS-c body?
Would you like to buy an entry level gear then slowly upgrade?( which cost more in the long run)
Or get a semi pro body and hang for a while?

see you soon :)
