hi michelle, welcome to alphadslr firstly.

every camera brand's RAW output has their own file extension. SONY's file extension is .ARW, so no worries.

as for photoshop not opening it, i believe you just have to go download adobe camera raw (google it) and install accordingly. what version's ur photoshop anyways? cs3? cs4?

hope this helps.

the 'software' is developed by sony to read it's own RAW files, nothing wrong with the adobe ones, just that some people finds a bit of different in final jpeg output between the 2 converters

Currently, your Photoshop CS3 uses Adobe Camera Raw 4 series...

The recent update of Camera Raw 5.4/5.5 supports A230/330/380 arw files... but I think it runs only on Photoshop CS4...

Currently you can use your Image Data Converter to adjust and then convert your ARW files into TIFF/JPEG files that can be opened in Adobe CS3.

warm welcome Michelle,

currently I am able to open the arw extension files at image data converter sr and able to import the arw files to sony's picture motion browser also... though i am using the a300 instead...

at the sony picture motion browser, i clicked on file > Register viewed folders... and i have the arw extension files organised.

at the image data converter sr, i was able to open and edit the arw files individually.

hope it helps...

cheers,
Benny

oh, use sony picture motion browser ah. ok.. i dun quite like to use that.

i'm used to using photoshop so.. tot to use that to edit instead. time to buy cs4 then..

so at the end of the day, do u convert ALL ur photos into jpg? and also keep raw images?? sorry, very new at the raw thing. if u want to get ur photos printed, u'll hv to convert them to jpg right?

raw images 7, 8, 9mb.... very very the big loh.... time consuming to output... since i'm still learning taking photos with dslr i take a lot of repeating scenes.. n my new laptop is in Sg, me now in jb using very old laptop.. wahhh... very slow... think i better use jpeg first...
