I have 4 visible spots depending on the aperture.

Because it depends on the aperture I suspect it's something on a lens element but I can't find anything on the front and back elements.

It's on the sensor. Sensor dust is more visible at smaller aperture (large aperture value).

Take a shot of a white piece of paper at smallest aperture possible with the lens and you will be able to see all the sensor dust. If you suspect is the lens, try with another lens. If it's in the same position is sensor dust.

Yeah, it's also easy to spot on a white sheet of paper. Unfortunately I have just one lens currently and everybody else uses Nikon and Canon here. Obviously I never had that problem with my Film SLR. Those spots are there since day one I think but I got the camera in Japan and I am in Australia now. What's the best way to remove it myself? Isn't the mirror in front of the sensor? I though the 'shake' system would be of some help here...

Take note of the positions of the dust, so you know where to point your blower.

Make sure your battery is fully charged (or close to full charge)
Go to your menu, look for cleaning mode.
Select that and it will lift up the mirror. Do not switch off yet.
Then remove lens.
Position the camera mount facing downward, then use blower blow the sensor. Careful not to poke the sensor :)
Replace lens, switch off.
Test again with white paper.

Repeat cleaning if necessary.

Good question on this. If the dust sensor when seen on photo is on top right hand corner, where is must you point the blower ? :)
