I'm thinkin of using some optical triggers for a sony f42. something like this or these have wires, and i can let em hang out of the softbox/umbrella, but i cant seem to find em locally... from http://www.dynaxdigital.com/index.php/topic,7573.0.html ![]() considering radio triggers as well. But ive read that some people were having trouble with their f42's not firing with receivers attached with a fs-1200, apparently there is some modification to be done to the connection points on the fs-1200 for it to work with a f42, all other flash models work normally. The problem they stated had something to do with the flash not receiving enough information and hence did not want to fire or something, even in full manual mode. so what's the likelyhood that this slave cell that connect directly with the flash is going to work with a f42. anyone using a wireless transmitter/receiver with a f42 currently? with fs-1200 (did u have to do anything to it?) exploring the various options as i'd like to purchase non sony brand flashes in the future and use the optical triggers or radio triggers with them for fill. also anyone know of any shops that carry these things, other than online stores, so i can go down and test em. sorry for the long post~ Thanks~

Optical slave adapter with minolta hotshoe mount at less than $20/- together with off-shoe cable will be able to do this setup but at a roughly higher price Done this with F58 and 5400HS, both works fine.

Hi! Bro P3 made a good recommendation... Do note that if you are intending to use the optical slave trigger - find those which are extremely sensitive - I don't have prior experience with the optical slave trigger (the type mentioned by bro P3) - because I jumped straight to using radio triggers (but not on Sony flashes though). I generally have some experience with your usual standard optical slave triggers - in places where the ambient light is strong to very strong (outdoors in bright daylight) - It might not work... e.g. if you are doing a outdoor shoot in bright day light - your slave trigger might not work. Optical slave triggers work by sensing a spike in brightness intensity - if the ambient light is too strong, it won't register in your optical Slave Trigger's sensor - and hence won't fire off... Though, bro cjng has demonstrated very sensitive triggers to me before - those can fire off flashes in very bright environments. For Standard Radio Triggers + FS1200 combo - IIRC - it just needs a simple modification for it to work (Exact details on how to do it... not too sure - you'd have to ask the more experienced bros) I think there are also Radio Triggers that are already adapted to the Sony/KM hotshoe - and can trigger off Sony/KM flashes natively without modification (I think it's the CTR trigger series) These are quite reliable. I think bros cyberx or cjng might be able to shed some light into this matter as they went rather deep into this matter. Bro JL Photo does carry some radio triggers that can work with Sony/KM cameras and KM Flashes. ![]() Hope this helps a little. ![]() Cheers, CA (p.s. I myself jumped straight into strobing with standard equipment - so I am not too well versed in getting Sony/KM flashes to work with radio triggers.) |
