Regardless of Nikon or Canon, I'm afraid if I get her something else other than Sony, then I might be tempted to switch over to the DARK Side myself :devil!:
Just go over.. The experience of going over and coming back will one hell of a memorable one..

I think Olympus Pen-1 is the best choice for a lady.
Pen-1 auto focus is slow. She will :knock: for buying her a slower cam than the one you using. :D
Lady normally doesn't look at function and performance. They just want things looked pretty...
You don't be surprise, now girls are more gear freak.
Last saturday, i was outside fotohub(beach rd), waiting for my film to be processed, saw two girls carrying DSLR cam Canon & Nikon i guess by looking at the cam strip. Shooting proudly in front of me while i'm smoking and observing them. Then start to compare shots viewing each other view finder.

So don't get surprise if you bump onto hardcore lady photog with white lens.

Even my daughter did ask me "Daddy why your picture all so big and good and mine is so tiny and blur blur ?" After that she always want to try using my DSLR instead of the compact. That was during one of the visit to the Zoo. :D
