Today I trekked from the junction of Clementi/Ulu Pandan roads to th the AYE/Pandan garden following the river on the Clementi side. No big birds...just the usual herons at the river side. But I shot a juvenile black cobra... I recognised it as one as it reared it's head as it flee across the walkway towards the river edge. The trek was my first trial of the Minolta 500 Reflex F8 lens that I just bought second hand for birding since cannot afford the big "guns". As expected bokeh was not so good, but can't complain since I bought it with this awareness... I also established a personal benchmark by newly acquired Omron pedometer which measured: a)17,552 steps taken, of which 6945 are aerobic steps lasting 66 minutes, with total steps covering b)9.8 km,over c)6 hours (10am-4pm, break for burger at Science Ctr), burning up d)555 kcal, and burning up 4)31.9gm of fat #1 the standard donut bokeh......... ![]() |

Juvenile black cobra (about 2 ft long)that crossed from the Clementi HDB side to the river edge. It caught me by surprise. I had my Minolta 500 on my tripod. Just managed to quick released & fire off one shot... not good picture Recognised it as a cobra as it reared it's head once as it ran towards the river edge. I probed the grass with my tripod leg and caught a glimpse of it again b4 it disappeared under the grass. #2
