@Mr.Oink - thank you for dropping by. Insofar as "interesting" means not boring, then I guess that's a good thing In any case, I'm still experimenting, playing around with what I find pleasing. For certain shots, I like to desaturate a bit. Others I like a darker feel. Well, thanks again for seeing my pages. Looking again at the Birds on a Wire photo reminds me that the deadline for the AlphaDSLR Feb photo contest draws nigh and I've got nothing even remotely appropriate yet ![]() Cheers, Ben |

(44) Bird's eye view - Bank and roll (shot date: 24 Feb, post date: 3 Mar) ![]() Original photo (Sony A200, 20mm, f5.6, 1/50 sec, ISO 100) This was my submission for the AlphaDSLR Feb monthly photo competition (Bird's Eye View theme). I had wanted to capture something like what a bird may see flying along in a wooded area. This particular shot was taken just off the road near to Sime Road (next to a large pile of big storm-water drain pipes, or at least I think that's what they were). Shooting time was mid-morning (around 10am). The shot was taken very simply; hand-held at a tilt and above-the-head, manual focus at infinity, shoot-and-hope! Back home, I desaturated the colours a bit, boosted the shadows, added the motion blur effect and the burnt edges. The photo was selected as the winning entry for the month! I am humbled * * * * * * * * * * * |

Well, everyone, it's been quite a few days but my mini photography drought has finally come to an end. I have two new photos to share. Since my last posting, I've traded my Sony camera for an oldish Canon 30D. I'd always wanted to try the xxD series, so now I have my chance. So far, I am enjoying the hell out of it! I hope this doesn't exlcude me from posting my APAD pics here (??), though I know I cannot continue to enter the monthly photo competitions (that was an unintended consequence of my action and unfortunate as I had come to really enjoy taking part in the competition). (45) Rain on a window (shot date: 4 Mar, post date: 5 Mar) ![]() Original photo (Canon 30D, 47mm, f5.6, 1/50 sec, ISO 100) A slightly abstract photo this time around. I have a thing for rainy days and I challenge myself to make the gloomy look appealing or interesting or not-so-gloomy. * * * * * * * * * * * (46) How I like my coffee (shot date: 4 Mar, post date: 5 Mar) ![]() Original photo (Canon 30D, 50mm, f1.8, 1/8000 sec, ISO 100) My other principal obsession! A latte from my Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. Delicious. This photo displays my like of desaturated colours and shadows. * * * * * * * * * * * Edited by benruane, Mar 5 2010, 11:54 AM.

(49) Blowing bubbles (shot date: 5 Mar, post date: 10 Mar) ![]() Original photo (Canon 30D, 50mm, f1.8, 1/640 sec, ISO 100) NB: I replaced this photo on Flickr after I got a comment of "toomuch" on the left-hand bubble. I think it was referring to the colours, which looked overdone. While they were not, in fact, over-saturated (strictly speaking), I do agree on taking a second-look that it appeared that way. When processing this photo in Photoshop, I did a master desaturation, then masked back the effect on the two bubbles (to regain the original vibrancy) and my son's skin (to regain a more natural skin tone). With hindsight, the colours around the circumference of the bubbles did look a bit alien! So, the photo linked now has a more "realistic" look. * * * * * * * * * * * Edited by benruane, Mar 21 2010, 07:25 AM.

(51) Like ships in the night... (iPHONE SERIES) (shot date: 15 Mar, post date: 15 Mar) ![]() Original photo (iPhone camera - EXIF no idea!?) For curiosity, this entire post was composed in my iPhone's browser, including manual entry of the HTML codes for formatting and image insertion and hyperlinking. I'm disproportionately proud of this mini acheivement! Lastly, tomorrow (Tuesday) marks what should be the last day of renovations at my place. Come evening, we should be able to move back home. Hooray! This means, among other things, that I'll be able to get back into a comfortable photographic environment in terms of downloading pics to my PC and sharing them. Can't wait And lastly lastly, tomorrow is my eldest son's 5th birthday. Happy birthday, Keith! * * * * * * * * * * * Edited by benruane, Mar 21 2010, 07:25 AM.
