here are some pics from the tam 200-500 so far pretty happy with it. i really like its weight. so far still able to handhold it but not for too long. will try out tripod over the weekend when i visit great falls again. taken from my house deck~ chopper passing by @ 420mm crow on neighbours roof @ 500mm taken at my favorite park (lakeside park) ~ heron taking off #1 @ 460mm heron taking off #2 @ 460mm heron taking off #3 @ 460mm cardinal eating seeds @ 420mm cardinal up in the tree @ 500mm goose taking off goose portrait (its abt 2m from me) @ 200mm thanks for viewing! (taken with a550 + tam 200-500) |

nice series dave, tammy 200-500 suitable for you. you can remove the tripod ring completely thus lessening the weight, i do it all the time. the lens is a good BIF weapon. focus at 200-300mm get lock then zoom out to 400mm or more , the lens can be zoomed by pushing the lens out instead of turning the zoom ring, this way is faster. congrats on your purchase and i am sure we will see more north american birds in future.

thanks man! wow, good tip there! never knew i could do that with zoom lenses hence found it quite challenging to track the birds i will start to visit more nature parks when my younger son starts attending pre-Kindergarten this coming September
