went to the shop & tested both the sigma & tamron. the sigma focusing is dead silent and produces slight warmer colours compared to the tamron. but weight wise, the sigma is significantly higher whereas the tamron is more to my liking and i find it produces sllightly sharper image. focusing for both is pretty fast actually.

so, i picked up the tamron :D

thanks all for your inputs! else i would have missed the tamron.

will post pics when i bring it out.
:cheer: enjoy

nice series dave, :thumbsup1:
tammy 200-500 suitable for you. you can remove the tripod ring completely thus lessening the weight, i do it all the time.
the lens is a good BIF weapon. focus at 200-300mm get lock then zoom out to 400mm or more , the lens can be zoomed by pushing the lens out instead of turning the zoom ring, this way is faster.
congrats on your purchase and i am sure we will see more north american birds in future. :cheer:
