Bros, i was wondering is there any shop around to service Sony's DSLR and lens calibration? I've send in my DSLR to SSC earlier, and they said need to wait for about 2-3weeks just for OVF & Sensor cleaning + Lens calibration. Is there anyone here or shops can help to do this kinda paid services? Please advice, thank you... |

Hmm you double triple confirm is lens off? If its body I can help you tune your AF sensor. Lenses wise I think only Sony can do it... Try fatigue, maybe he will know... |

Sure boh? Really can tune one ar? I've tried the lens at daytime or the condition with enough light, seems to be very sharp and accurate but once i use the lens under dimmed ambient, it start to behave like mad cow... Zoom in and out, in and out, without focusing accurately. Even though i got the focus lock, pics come out still not accurate for focusing... So do you think that i need to calibrate my lens or service my body? |

hmm, i can help you to test the next time we meet. Alternatively, print a focus test chart and test with all your lens at the wides possible aperture and at the longest focal length at 45 deg to the chart. Mount on tripod too to ensure that there's no error due to movement. See if its a consistent back or front focus. if its front and back or if it varies greatly then its your lenses already. The AF sensor on your body quite easy to tune, you just need penknife (to open the sticker cover), a protractor to keep track how much you are turning, and an allen key to turn the screws which controls the height of the AF sensor. I just tuned mine recently myself. Actually dim condition all cameras will hunt.. I will usually MF in dim conditions. You can attach an external flash to make use of the red light AF illuminator to help get your focus. Edited by Aimevous, Dec 14 2010, 10:32 AM.

DY, actually i did mount my flashgun on top of the body as i need the "red light" to illuminate for me. But again same thing happens, not focusing accurately. You teach me the way to tune my AF sensor, i don't dare leh... Once, i opened it up, i may need to replace the body... Muahahaha |

Ding Yan, why you need to use the red AF from flashgun as A700 already have AF illuminator? CMIIAW. |

@vibranze: oh i was referring to robin's one. cuz his is not a700. @Robin: haha here you go, read through his article as well as the dpreview one listed in the link inside - http://www.alphamountworld.com/forums/sony-alpha-a700-dslr/a700-all-alpha-series-focus-adjusment/2009-9/4190 If you still scared and you dont mind the small risk, I can actually do it for you at the coming TFCD. Just have to let me know before hand so I can bring the tools. Haha no need to open up the body. Its technically still outside. |

YES BRO, you are right. It's not the lens problem. I just know that prime lens can't be calibrated, only zooms need to... OMG, now then i know prime lens calibration is not needed. I'm really still a newbie... I think it's the sensor... |

ehh lens might still be the problem. lens can be calibrated but not by us. You'll need a way to interface with the on-lens circuit to tweak the focusing module. Need specialised equipment. eh but do note that if u turn the screws wrongly and you didnt take note, you'd probably have tilted the sensor and that will be a bit problematic, that one will have to send to SSC to correct, cuz there's no way we can measure the angle of tilt. haha need specialised equipment already. |
