Haha .. @ #3. Nice series. And big fish as well. What lens you used Yannh? I think for #3, if you are using tele lens, (and with sony/minolta AF system) our hand reflex may not be fast enough to catch it. Unless you already pre-empt and guess where it going to dive, and aim there (with pre-focus, AF-C + burst setting), instead of at the bird the tree. But need to keep watching up and down, to ensure you on right "path"

Thanks Koh. I was actually quite surprise that it swallow the whole fish. I'm using Tamron 200-500. Any recommendation? Seems not likely to get the right "path" for me. So the AF solution is 1DMarkIV? How about A33/A55 AF? |

Problem is lens AF is slow, the bigger the lens.. AF cannot target lock in split seconds. Can 1DMIV do it? ![]() Aim where you think it will land.. get focus target on slightly in front, set aperture setting with enough DOF within the spot you chosen (front & back). Trade off here DOF with motion blur vs sharp + frozen photo. The moment it dive (as long as towards where you aim), your burst. You get better success rate at wider part of your lens (later crop), than at 500mm end. Keep looking up at the bird to see where it is looking for fishes. Change aim location & prefocus when necessary. If the bird repeated dive to same spot (usually in case of bathing) you can get a second AF lock on the dived spot then burst again. Action shots doesnt have to freeze. At least for first few times. At later stage after practice, then plan for that "sharp photo with all splash all frozen".. Am I making sense? haha.. i look like that after a big lunch too.......loosen my belt as well. tamron200-500 is a good lens to use for a start. cheap and does a good job. later you get poisoned by prime lens! later?.........maybe sooner! haha
