Are u using 5mm LED light strip?
5mm LED has very poor light output or low lumen.

Maybe u can try SMD5050 light strip, they produce much better output.
Hmm.. frankly I'm not too sure. I got mine from here:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/120-led-120cm-12v-soft-light-strip-white-7561

Any idea what it is?
Hmm..you are using he 5mm LED.

U should try getting this :)

oh nice, that one comes with a connector!

But its bending on the wrong axis? This can't be used for ring light right? Do you have your own ring light?

heh I'm still very new to electrical stuffs.. but its time to explore into them!

Thanks for the info thus far!

Dealextreme also sells LED drivers where there deliver 12V and limit the Current to 750mA or 1A.
Hi,

Could you kindly enlighten me if a LED driver is useful if I am intending to power the light using batteries?

Is it only for connection to AC?
Sorry, I'm not too familiar with LEDs yet, other than the bare basics.

Thanks!

They are actually flat, BTW the picture they show is incorrect, the picture shows a RGB LED light strip. with "R" "G" "B" "+" The actual item should look the same except for the solder joint, there will only be a "+" & "-"
Each joint can be cut and run as a stand alone strip.

The driver will need a AC 240V input and output 12V DC @ 750mA. will not be applicable for Batteries.

Therefore for batteries, u will need to the batteries to connect to a simple circuitry that limit the output current @ 750mA or desired.

Thanks for the clarification, but I dont really understand by the "R" "G" "B". Are you referring to the square patches?

What I meant by bending wrong axis is that it is allowing the bend in the same direction where the light is shining, so the light will be shining radially outwards right, not forward?

So do you mean to cut it up and manually sticking it onto a "donut" surface?

Yes, the strip can be cut into pieces with 3 LED per strip. U can then join them manually into a donut.

No prob, I also just started my interest in LED last year only. Maybe you can try visiting Sim Lim Tower, they have a few shops selling LED strips.
price is slightly pricier then DealExtreme. However the shop can light up the LED so that you can gauge the brightness.
