Irritating you with my awesome blinking avatar!

I was playing with a friend's a850 with my crop lenses and was wondering of there was any way to avoid the camera from cropping the images from aps lenses?

Turn ON release without lens, put your aps-c lens onto the mount, DISMOUNT the lens by pressing dislodge lens button and unscrewing the lens a bit (before the click), and shoot.

This allows you to get the full frame with vignett from the APS-C lens. Not bad when I tried with 35F1.8.

Just go to the setting option, set to FF regardless of lens type.

Hmm, may I ask where is that option?

I tried going through the entire menu of my friend's A850 and I only saw one relevant option, i.e. "APS Sized Capt" or something like that.
that one is Off by default, but using Sony lenses it still crop it.

I did some reading online and it appears that Sony DT lenses tells that camera that this is a DT lens and it will crop. 3rd party lenses (even cropped) do not transmit this info and hence do not crop.

I'm not sure if the A850 was on the latest firmware though, but are you able to capture images on your A850/A900 with a Sony DT lens (e.g. SAL35F18, SAL50F18, SAL30M28) without the camera chopping it off (without doing Chiraj's hack)?

Thanks!

Ya, I was looking through the OVF with my SAL35F18 on my friends A850 and was surprised it isn't vignetting much, which was why I wanted to see the performance on the A850 but was disappointed when it started cropping.

I'm considering upgrading to A850 if it can use my 35mm F1.8! heh

You can use but it will get cropped. I tried my 16-105 before, mount on A850, no vignetting but it became 24mm and 6MP in resolution if IIRC.

if u wish to get 35mm view via FF, get 35F14G, it is truely astounding, and images pop out due to the great bokeh produced at F1.4. I compared it with my 16-35cz at 35mm F2.8, the cz has a better contrast, but the G has a smoother bokeh.
Both at disposal, I would prefer 35F14, mainly, it is light, wide to have snap shots during walkabout, short MFD to do some macro shots, Good portrait lens too, and low light usage. Enough said.

haha yeah I know but the 35G costs 10x the DT version.. so I was wondering if there was a cheap way to go about using it! heh.
Seems like there isn't...

Oh well..
