I loved these games... Hoenn was so cool!

The Hoenn region was very unique when compared to the other regions and the R/S/E games were definitely full of creativity. Great new Pokemon (at the time), interesting antagonistic teams, and excellent music are all great features from these games. Wish I had a chance to play it more though...

It would be nice to see more appreciation for R/S/E (it's unfortunate that it's release was when the Pokemon fad was beginning to dwindle in popularity - these games just got the blame :/).

I know... I wish people like Hoenn more. It was very well-made for its time.

It was very well made then, and it was more or less a reboot for the series. Pretty neat to see that and so many unique Pokemon.

R/S deserves some great remakes. Definitely needs more appreciation for sure.

Oh yeah, it definitely does. I've always loved Hoenn. Esp. loved all the puddles and seeing my sprite's reflection.

I agree. XD I love how vibrant the game and its locations were. A nice split between land and water too in terms of the region. Perfect for Ruby and Sapphire.

A perfect balance, for the two evil teams. I see what they did there. :P

I started playing Emerald on an emulator. Seems pretty fun, but I don't have much of a team yet :P .

Well, I dug it out, and here's my team so far:

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 7)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 3)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 2)

Yep, not much XD

Keep playing! Your Pokémon can go up to level 100! Also, your Mudkip should help with the first gym!

Nice names! Also I recommend potions from the store for the first gym and heal Mudkip often!

Water Gun will help you against Rock types!

So, how high will I need to level my Pokémon up before I have a good chance at the first gym?

Try battling the Gym Trainers with just Mudkip. A strong water type is your best bet for this gym!

If you need extra support, catch a Marill just outside of the town though. Wurmple evolves fast but I'm not sure if it will help that much for this gym.

Nice tip :) . I haven't seen any Marills yet; where would I go?

It looks like you need a Pokémon with Surf. That HM comes later in the game.

No problem.

Also go south of Rustboro City to that route where a bridge over the water exists. Go to the grass around that route (should be some in the west corner where the Berry Shop is). Marills should be around there.

Mudkip and Marill are both fine candidates for Surf too though I think training Mudkip will easily lead you to victory against the first gym.

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 8)
Dave (Lotad; Level 4)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 3)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 3)

Lotad is another good water type! Keep levelling it up, it should evolve into a Lombre soon!

Oh yes! Forgot about Lotad and it's a great Pokemon!

Grass and Water - that should help a lot! Good luck in the gym battle!

Good luck!

Keep levelling up that Wurmple too, it'll evolve into a Cascoon or Silcoon.

Be sure to level up Poochyena, it's got lots of potential if you can get it past level 15.

Give Lotad some time. It will gain fine grass and water moved once it evolves.

Also trying switching in and out your weaker Pokemon with your stronger ones in battles. Helps rack up exp.
