Yep, I'm doing that a bit. However, I do now have an extra two weak Pokémon, so I might have to do it a lot now :P .

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 10)
Dave (Lotad; Level 6)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 4)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 4)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 3)
Red Bull (Wingull; Level 2)

Good idea and cool team!

Try beating Roxanne with Mudkip and you should find stronger trainers as you head to Dewford, the next area with a Gym Leader. You'll need to rescue Peeko in the cave full of Whismurs (east of Rustboro) first.

Update: I made it to Rustboro City, and my team looks like this:

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 11)
Dave (Lotad; Level 8)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 5)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 5)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 3)
Red Bull (Wingull; Level 2)

Dave learned Absorb, which was nice :D

Nice work! I'm sure with Mudkip and Lotad, Roxanne will be a walk through the park for you.

Nice :) .

So, should I focus on levelling up Wingull?

Focus on Lotad and Mudkip for now! But if you're battling, put Wingull first and then switch out to Mudkip. It'll get EXP.

I used that trick a couple of times in the first gym, when I was fighting Geodudes. Consequently, my team looks like this now:

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 15)
Dave (Lotad; Level 8)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 5)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 5)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 5)
Red Bull (Wingull; Level 4)

Also, my Mudkip learned Bide :D .

Looks great!

Tbh, I wouldn't rely on Bide. It's a storing attack that takes 3 turns to execute. I'd say focus on Water Gun and Mudslap.

Also I think Lotad grinding might be nice. Your team looks solid but for Roxanne - you gotta flood out her gym!

Well, I have done a little bit of that, and consequently, Dave has gained a couple of levels:

Nomemesplz (Mudkip; Level 15)
Dave (Lotad; Level 10)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 6)
Hurricane (Wurmple; Level 5)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 5)
Red Bull (Wingull; Level 4)

Bide is annoying, though. I've yet to find a situation where it was worth using.

Bide is only good if the Pokemon that has the move is defensive or bulky. It needs to get hit by the opponent while storing up with Bide to even be decent.

Also nice work. Mudkip evolves at the next level! I'd rely on Water Gun for Roxanne. Remember to train Wingull later too - a flying type will serve you well for the Fighting gym (next gym).

Well, Mudkip evolved :D ! Here's my team now:

Here's my Emerald team:

Nomemesplz (Marshtomp; Level 16)
Dave (Lotad; Level 12)
Awwww (Skitty; Level 8)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 8)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 6)
Red Bull (Wingull; Level 6)

And, in a box somewhere:

Hurricane (Wurmple, Level 5)

Nice work against Roxanne and good to see Mudkip evolve!

Try facing Brawly soon - your team is shaping up well. I'd say try training your weaker members too.

Yeah, I am trying to train them. The trouble is, I have four weak team members and two strong members, so if I start with a weak Pokémon and then rotate it out for either Marshtomp or Lotad mid-battle, that doesn't help my weak Pokémon to catch up. In fact, my experience is that it's widening the gap between my strongest and weakest Pokémon....

You have to switch before every Pokemon.

Well, I'm doing that, but my big guns are still levelling faster than anyone else :( .

I might put Oaky away somewhere. He's been useless so far.

You know, training your stronger Pokemon is actually better. You'll find even more stronger wild Pokemon soon enough and decide on which team members you truly want to train for the meanwhile.

Also the EXP Share is a handy item to have. It doubles exp for the Pokemon holding it. Forget where you get it though, will have to check online.

Where are you now? Have you saved Peeko the Wingull for the old man in the Whismur Cave?

You can gain access to Dewford for the next Gym if so.

Keep it up!

Also, don't get rid of Oaky!! It'll evolved into a Nuzleaf, and if you have a Leaf Stone, a Shiftry! They're amazing!

No, I haven't - but I have rescued those goods and Peeko!

Also, I had a Nincada who fell in love with my Skitty :P . I decided to catch him, so now they can go around together! He's replaced the Wingull in my team - which now looks like this:

Nomemesplz (Marshtomp; Level 16)
Dave (Lotad; Level 12)
Awwww (Skitty; Level 9)
Doggywoggy (Poochyena; Level 8)
Oaky (Seedot; Level 8)
Lovebug (Nincada; Level 7)

How much should I level Wingull up before I go to the second gym, then?

Wingull learns Wing Attack, a :Flying: type move at level 13. (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/278.shtml)

Skitty and Pooch are both weak to :Fighting: types so don't rely too much on them. Nincada won't be of help till it evolves at level 20. Marshtomp is fair, but levelling up Wingull could be the key to your victory considering that a good half of your team is weak to :Fighting: moves.

Fighting types are really strong, so Wingull can help greatly.
