Gynandromorphs are extremely rare animals, in which one side is female and one side is male. In fact, not too long ago, there was a gynandromorph moth found at the Natural History Museum in London. |

Gynandromorphs certainly are strange; yet, fascinating. It's interesting to see the combination of both genders within an animal. That moth provides quite a distinct example of Gynandromorphic animals - dang, those two wings clearly show the difference well. Here's an interesting blog page with pictures of these types of animals: http://spidersilkstockings.blogspot.ca/2011/12/science-saturday-gynandromorphs.html Some are quite beautiful though the poor butterfly with one wing being considerably larger than the other. :o |

It definitely is! ![]() Very strange combination when together, but it's neat to know that such a thing as Gynandromorphs do happen. http://i.livescience.com/images/i/000/016/723/iFF/9CardinalMF_K509082smalledited.jpg?1305683133 Here's a Gynandromorphic Cardinal. I've seen this one a few times where it was a meme saying that it looked like a Pokeball. Still pretty neat. http://25.media.tumblr.com/8e8bcd1f1867d61bf7bb2597a797dce4/tumblr_mns0l5i2zM1rxcsyvo1_400.jpg Edited by Captain Toad, Jun 2 2013, 06:29 PM.

Sure is a cute little cardinal, and you're right about a peppermint like look! Really is strange seeing such creatures - almost like hybrids of sorts! |
