^ ![]() Today, I saw FOUR GREATER ROADRUNNERS. This is the most I've seen in ONE DAY. The first one, I almost hit it. But I slowed down and it ran off but it also flew as well. I had never seen one fly until today. Usually, they prefer to run - but in this case, I almost hit it, so it had to run. The second one, it ran across the road. However, a BLUE JAY darted in front of me. I slowed down and the roadrunner just made it across the road. The third one, it was just hanging out on the side of the road. The fourth one, I believe the fourth one was the same one as I almost hit earlier today. It managed across too. Here are some other birds I saw: AMERICAN KESTREL: it was perched on a wire. RED-TAILED HAWK: I saw at least two or three of them. The first one was in the city, it was around an open area. The second one was amazing! It was riding a thermal! It was just in one spot, without flapping or moving. I wish I could do that. The song "Free Fallin'" was on the radio just after I saw it! There was another hawk with it as well. AMERICAN ROBIN: I saw several of these birds. There were so many! AMERICAN CROW: I saw some in a field and some in the trees. There were also two crows around a pond. COOPER'S HAWK: Was near the same area as the Red-tailed Hawk. NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD: I saw at least two of them. They were flying across the road. BLUE JAY: Darted in front of me. I think I saw at least one other blue jay. DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS: They were flying in large flocks. At least three different groups of them. MYSTERIOUS BIRD: I saw a dark, crow-sized flying towards a creek. I think it was a heron of some sort. I think that's it... Edited by ObsessedwithBirds, Jan 20 2014, 09:59 PM.

Dang, that's really lucky to see so many different species of birds in one day! o.o Especially those roadrunners - to see four of them and especially at quite a close distance is real neat! I have yet to see a true live roadrunner, so hope to see one someday. xD I'll admit that I hadn't known that they could truly fly, so to hear about this is really quite fascinating. Neat how you saw a couple Double-Crested Cormorants too. I really liked seeing those birds back when I came over - such majestic looking birds and the way they perched among those high branches those times we saw them was just amazing. *.* Can't forget that sight. Hawks, blue jays, mockingbirds, they're all neat birds and I'm glad you got to see them all! Aside from that, nicely done in spotting all those brilliant birds! It's not easy to catch a sight of so many species at once, and to even see several roadrunners on one day must be quite a delight I'd imagine! ^.^ Great job once again, and keep us updated when you can. Love hearing your bird sighting tales! |

I spotted that one roadrunner that I almost hit. This time, I wasn't as close to hitting it. However, it did manage to flap some and land on the other side of the road. I also spotted some crows and a Red-tailed Hawk. |
