It's simply amazing as to how many species have come to live and exist on Earth. So many different kinds of species - all those changes and evolutionary adaptations for various species. Extinctions, new species discoveries, etc - it's all incredible! Who knows how many species will develop in the near future? So many bacteria and archaea on their own.

Fungi does come in a variety of shapes and forms. As decomposers, I'd imagine that their shapes would change easily depending on the decaying materials they feed off of. Highly successful; I would imagine that they would grow rapidly in the variety of species over the years. Let's not forget how successful fungi species are in general! They can grow anywhere literally - heck, even on the bodies of living animals and varieties of inanimate objects. Heck, mould is a fine example. XD Edited by Captain Toad, Jul 21 2013, 01:52 AM.

I've read somewhere that there could be millions of species... Also, I agree. There are so many species! Even lichen, mould and yeast are fungi too! |

So true^ The true number of species though can never be counted. They keep splitting, disappearing, and growing at a rate that we'll never be able to catch up to! |

Yep - and it's even more if you also include extinct species! |
