The Archean Eon represents a period in Earth's history from 4 billion to 2.5 billion years ago. While these are arbitrarily chosen figures, the beginning of the Eon coincides with the end of the so called "Great Cometary Bombardment" of Earth, while the end coincides with the "Great Oxygenation Event," when the fundamental nature of the Earth's atmosphere changed forever. I bet it was. Though what's amazing is how these little organisms survived on and spawned out enough life to eventually reach the species diversity that we even have today! Earth's creatures are so mysterious... |
