David Weber is great. Honor Harrington rules!

Currently re-reading The Tank Lords by David Drake.

Palentine: I've just started doing a course on the American Civil War for my degree. I know next to nothing about military history, though: are there are any good, and fairly general, books about the military aspects of the war you might recommend (as it seems to feature heavily in your reading)?

I can recommend several, but I'll do so when more sober and able to think.

The Companion book to Ken Burns' The Civil War PBS Series is good.

I'd also recommend Bruce Catton's Civil War series(Auss would beat me if I didn't)
A link to the names of some of his books on the Civil War.

Shelby Foote's three volume narrative on the Civil War
The Civil War: A Narrative. Vol 1: Fort Sumter to Perryville.
The Civil War: A Narrative. Vol 2: Fredicksburg to Meridian.
The Civil War: A Narrative. Vol 3: Red River to Appomattox.

U.S. Grant- Memoirs of U.S Grant

William T. Sherman- Memoirs of William T. Sherman

James McPherson- The Battle Cry of Freedom

These are just off the top of my head, mate. Auss might know more.

Heh! Heh! Heh! just got the Nov issue of Guns&Ammo. I'm drooling over the new Pointman Seven 1911a by Dan Wesson and CZ-USA. I'm in gun heaven. My trigger finger is even getting itchy. :)

They storyline's pretty good, but the writing's utter crap. I try to ignore how bad the writing is, though.
