Sad to say, in my 21.5 years on this Earth I had not watched The Princess Bride until tonight. And they were 21.5 wasted years indeed, because that is one damn fine movie. I watched Sixteen Blocks, which was pretty good - you can't really go wrong with downtown car crashes and Bruce Willis as an alcoholic cop. |

You're kidding!?! You've never seen The Princess Bride until now!?! You, sir, are a freak of nature. But, we love you, so it's all good. ![]() Also, I completely agree with you about 16 Blocks. As for me, I'm getting into the spirit of the season (no, not Halloween...elections!) I'm rewatching all 7 seasons of The West Wing. |

Live From Austin TX: Kinky Friedman Its a DVD of his appearence on Austin City Limits. Singing some of his hits like Get your Biscuits in the oven, and your buns in bed, and Asshole from El Paso, Kinky and the Texas Jewboys show a fun spark sorely lacking in country music today. The Kinkster was alt country before such a thing existed. |

I went to see Blindness yesterday; I thought it was really good, and made excellent use of the book. Pretty scary waking up this morning, though. |

Yeah, it's got some really crappy reviews, which I think are a little unfair. I think in my case, my worry was that it wouldn't be faithful: it was, so I was a happy customer. Someone who hadn't read the book first might have a different take. |

Saw Quantum of Solace today with my family, and although I see where the reviewers are coming from when they say it's a disappointment as a follow-up to Casino Royale, I really think it needs to be reviewed in a different context from prior Bond movies. I was impressed with the whole thing. |

I really don't understand the critics' love affair with Daniel Craig. Casino Royale sucked so hard I was worried I'd have to pay it fifty bucks for the night. I skipped Quantum of Solace as an early Christmas present to myself. Sigh... Pierce Brosnan was such a class act. He had a few good Bond films left in him, even with the silver streaks. |

I was disappointed they've gone with a harder action style for the new films, but it's definitely different from the straight action of the Bourne films (which I never liked) and gave it a more raw, gritty feel. The new Bond is a horrible person, an icy personality, and someone whose character development has to take place over the course of several movies. The other Bond actors played the same character in every movie, with the new stuff I get a definite sense they're trying to flesh him our more. Of course, I'm one of those assholes who read the Fleming books and compares with the film, so take my analysis as you will. |

I agree with Snef - Craig is definately the most Bondian Bond when compared with the books (although, oddlyu enough, I always felt Dalton was pretty close too). I do like the new bastard Bond. However, I felt that QoS was a tad over complicated/confusing, with a slightly convuluted storyline, and wasn't as good as Casino Royale. |
