I just remembered an old post from Gruen asking about baseball, and me replying about it being over-romanticized in American cinema.

Even so, I would like to thank whichever network it was that aired "The Sandlot" while I was channel-surfing last weekend. One of my favorite childhood films.

The Sandlot is one of my all-time favorites, although The Sandlot II was pretty bad and I'm afraid to watch Sandlot III.

A freaking classic.

I wonder if "kids these days" see it and think its ripping off movies that actually ripped it off...

I saw Bruno over the weekend. It isn't as funny as Borat, in fact all of the genuinely funny parts could be condensed down to about a 30 minute segment. The funniest part of the film is the cage fight scene which (hilariously) was filmed in the horrid city across the river from me.

Just got back from Let the Right One In, a really stunning Swedish vampire movie. The only disappointing thing is it seems like they've changed a lot from the novel (which I haven't read) but at least the screenplay was by the same guy. If you don't mind subtitled films, go see it. Apparently Cloverfield dude is doing an English language remake.

I'm seriously thinking about breaking one of my cardinal rules( Rule #3 Thou shall never watch a Brad Pitt movie) and go see Inglorious Basterds when it comes out in my little corner of the world. I figure at the very least, since its a Quenton Terranteno film, there will be a lot of action and carnage.

FYI: rules 1 and 2 are
Thou shall never watch a Tom Cruise movie
Thou shall never watch a Leonardo DeCaprio film

Antichrist was interesting. Not very good but interesting all the same.

Martyrs is a better shock flick.

The Antichrist trailer looks downright disturbing.

The Invention of Lying may be the worst film I have ever seen in my life, and I am going to completely revisit my opinions of Tina Fey and Rob Lowe for associating themselves with it. It has to be one of the least socially responsible pictures ever made too, and I can only hope that its basic premise about heaven being a lie is correct, thereby ensuring none of the people involved in it go there.

Buffalo 66 is quite fun, even though Vincent Gallo is a bit weird. Spooky soundtrack and Christina Ricci is excellent. And in the opening scene...I have walked around that exact bus station in Buffalo, looking for that exact same toilet!

Finally, I watched The Lives of Others, a couple of years late. I loved it in every respect, but now feel slightly disjointed about it, and in the end of the film and the beginning of breakfast thought up two, which became three, which became four, plot botherations, of minor to major consequence. So I'm not sure what to make of it now.

I might go see, The Blind Side, when it comes out. Looks like it could be this generation's Brian's Song.

Much to my ever lasting shame, I bought a copy of the Speed Racer movie. I know I have no excuse, but I really like it.

Bought Heavy Metal yesterday at Wal-Mart(and was kinda shocked to find it there). Its one of my favorite animated movies, and the soundtrack is awesome.

It also has one of my favorite movie lines....
"I'm just scared I'll come home one day and find you screwing the toaster."
