Ahem. Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man, not Garbage. Mostly agree, Gru, though I'd have Sand River alongside Drake. I think the only weak song is the title track, which is a shame, as it closes the album. |

Haha, I was relistening last night and was in half a mind to edit into my post that Sand River was a wonderful track. On my version the last track is Candy Says (Velvet Underground cover). Rustin Man is the penultimate one (and no, nothing special). Following the sad news, I had Interstellar Overdrive playing this morning. The stereo sound peels your socks off. And the whole album's recording quality is marvelous. |

Damn, I don't have Candy Says! Sadly, my Pink Floyd knowledge is next to zero. Bike's quite funny, and I prefer Sparklehorse's version of Wish You Were Here, which makes me some kind of extreme musical heretic, I suspect. |

There's a bunch of good covers of that song. When I saw Sparklehorse live they didn't play that, though. Personally, I prefer their 1960s albums e.g. Piper, Ummagumma to the 1970s stuff e.g. Dark Side, and the bloated and overrated The Wall. I mainly got into them because they were the first big band my father went to see live, so he's always been a bit of a cultist (including seeing a tribute band called Pink Fraud when we were at Glastonbury). |

I went back to my parents' house this weekend, and listened to some of my dad's Word magazine compilations, which are pretty good, on the strength of which I today picked up albums by Fleet Foxes, American Music Club, and Mountain Goats - all excellent. And while I was at home I listened to some of my guiltier secrets I didn't have the heart to take to uni: Placebo, James and The La's. |

Currently getting down with the reverb-soaked post-rock melodies of My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, and Sonic Youth. |

Ryan Adams's new album Cardinology finally appeared. It's not wonderful (by his standards) but a lot better than Easy Tiger. "Magick" is warming on me. |

I've had Roots Manuva's debut album, Brand New Second Hand, on repeat for much of the day. I have no idea why it's taken me so long to get my hands on it, I've had Run Come Save Me, the follow-up, for a couple of years. Needless to say, it's umpteen shades of awesome. |

Nathan Fake - Drowning in a Sea of Love. He did an epic set at The Arches last night. And Mogwai remixes of Public Enemy have rendered me insensate. |
