The only proposition I had to vote on (that was even remotely controversial) was a local one, Prop 2:
I voted yes on it. I don't favor tax abatements or other incentives. And with Austin having to cut its budget left and right lately, I'm even less in favor or them. |

Here in Washington we had three initiatives on the ballot. Initiative Measure No. 985 concerns transportation. This measure would open high-occupancy vehicle lanes to all traffic during specified hours, require traffic light synchronization, increase roadside assistance funding, and dedicate certain taxes, fines, tolls and other revenues to traffic-flow purposes. Initiative Measure No. 1000 concerns allowing certain terminally ill competent adults to obtain lethal prescriptions. This measure would permit terminally ill, competent, adult Washington residents, who are medically predicted to have six months or less to live, to request and self-administer lethal medication prescribed by a physician. Initiative Measure No. 1029 concerns long-term care services for the elderly and persons with disabilities. This measure would require long-term care workers to be certified as home care aides based on an examination, with exceptions; increase training and criminal background check requirements; and establish disciplinary standards and procedures. |

I agree, Texas is being very boring this election cycle. It's not even a surprise who's going to win anything at this point down here. The one rather lame proposition I had to vote on is the only item of "suspense" I have. <_< |

I can top that with my Prop 8 experiences... My parents and godparents are fucking cold calling people to get them to vote for Prop 8. My whole family, being intolerant Mormons, are using the "it's for the children" excuse, after they stopped using the "it's against the Bible!" excuse. And, last night, when I was up in Oakland for choir practice, the woman giving the closing prayer (they're Mormons...they pray after everything) just would not shut the fuck up about how much "we" want Prop 8 to pass. God. Damn. Fucking. Mormons. Stop. Pushing. Your. Religion. Onto. My. Laws. Fuck! Sorry. I'm better now. |

In an unexpected twist, the results from California-50 are so close they still haven't called it yet. It used to be reliably Republican, but apparently I now live in a swing district! Yay! Granted, Brian Bilbray is still a shaky freshman, and about as cuddly as a crocodile, and his predecessor's incorruptible corruptitude made Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff look like humanitarians, and of course Obama's surprise win in San Diego County didn't help matters much, either, but still... Yay! And Prop 8's narrow victory means more lawsuits. God, Mormons suck. |

Yeah, and up here in the CA-15, something utterly shocking happened! Mike Honda...won! I'm amazed! And yeah, Kenny's right. Mormons suck. |

Got a question for y'all from Cali. I heard about a groups plan to hold another constitiutional convention to update/reboot the state constitution. Any chance of this actually happening? It will make for swell TV if it does. Might even cause Matthews and Olbermann to finally blow a gasket and expire. |

I can't argue against them, mainly cause I don't live in Cali, but I can say that if the vote went through referrendum and was passed, the court shouldn't have the ability to overturn it. Which is basically what's happening. |

I mean, I was rather ambivalent towards Prop 8, but having the state supreme court rule on the constitutionality of a constitutional amendment struck me as... odd. Granted, that didn't stop Nebraska's SC from doing the same re: abortion, but still... |
