"This is an award for not being George W. Bush." I've decided that my bumper-sticker slogan for the next four years is going to be, "Dubya won his war--how's Obama doing with his?" |

Ouch. That artical seems to be tarring all Europeans with the same brush. I think the comment of America inventing the internet was somewhat unfair, seeing as it was more something that grew organically from various different systems, including the American ARPANET, but also NORSAR...which was Norwegian. And of course, the internet as we usually mean (i.e. the world wide web) was British. Indeed, most of the stuff she says America did is...well...bollocks. The incandescent light was British (Swan, a year before Edison). Eyeglasses are far older than America, and are likely to be Italian. The only one she get's right is the polio vaccine, which is rather specific. The reason she doesn't have small pox is British, for example - as is the invention of innoculation as a whole. Some should also let the author know the Germany declared war on the US in the Second World War. Not the other way around. Sorry, slight rant. America has done some great things, so there's no need to nick the great things other nations have done |

Apparently the peace prize has undergone a slight redesign. And then there's this silliness |

 I nominated myself. All joking aside I don't understand why people are throwing rocks at Obama over this. I mean yeah it's funny, and I've joked about it myself, but is it really something to get mad over? |

Do you suppose that Peggy Noonan article you approvingly linked to was really a love note to Obama written in code? <_< I had expected John Bolton to throw rocks at the president, but his analysis in this morning's New York Post was really kinda meh. |

She seemed mad more at the Nobel committee than at Obama. |

Yeah, she seemed to be more anti-european than anti-Obama. A bit of sour grapes that Europe doesn't love the everloving shit out of Reagan? Awards in this day and age are horrendously overvalued, and horrendously unimpressive. Case in point: the American Medal of Freedom. President Bush handed those out like hotcakes. To my mind, one of the only medals that has any validity left at all is the Medal of Honor and its various foreign equivalents. Only one that means anything at all. |

Alright, lame example, but imagine the tumult on the left if Bush had been given a Nobel Prize! I'd also have to agree about Presidential Medals of Freedom being handed out like candy, if even a borderline-anti-Semite bitch like Mary Robinson deserved one. The person who nominated her ought to be shot. |

Blimey, what did she do to earn such vitriol? She seems to get good press over here (on the rare occasions she gets a mention, that is). |
