Oh god, the 2012 election is going to be just like the California recall, they'll be coming from everywhere. |

I've been dreading this and putting it off and hoping someone else would do it, but I guess we need to start a US Presidential Election 2012 thread pretty soon. Or at least a 2012 Republican Primary thread since it's likely Obama will run unopposed for the Democratic nomination. |

If Obama doesn't run unopposed Democrats are much stupider than I gave them credit for. (And, yes, I generally support the Democratic position, politically, but the pundits/"left wingers"/politicians can be So. Damn. Stupid. as a whole.) |

I've heard rumblings that Hillary's done with Obama come 2012. I wouldn't count her out for a challenge. |

Speaking of stupid Democrats with presidential aspirations, Dennis Kucinich!
We'll get to it eventually. But I'd rather wait and see how long we can delay the inevitable first.

Dennis Kucinich is an idiot and I hope his seat disappears with redistricting. I might be liberal, but I also try to stay within the realm of the, well, *real*. |

Dennis Kucinich may be a moonbat, but dammit if I don't find myself agreeing with him, possibly for the first (and I hope only) time. I'm all for giving Qaddafi the smackdown, but Kucinich is right--what Obama did was illegal. There's been no Congressional authorization that I know of allowing the President to conduct a military strike against Libya. And I really don't see how this could fly under the War Powers Act--as much as we all want to see him strung up by his heels, Qaddafi has not seriously threatened the United States. |

The only requirement he has is to notify congress at least 48 hours before committing troops, which looks to have happened. I don't know all of the details about what all transpired, considering he's not even in the country who knows how it all went down. If congress was not notified, or if the move was not approved, he could be brought to trial for abuse of executive power. I can't remember the exact term right off the top of my head, it was what politicians wanted to hang Abraham Lincoln over for essentially going to war while congress was in recess. |

It's hilarious watching MSNBC try so desperately to justify their support for the Libyan campaign. Were it Dubya going after Gadaffi, they all likely would have suffered collective heart failure by now. Rachel Maddow even tried to assert that Obama's war is "different" because he jetted off to Brazil rather than face his critics at home when the bombing started. So apparently his cowardice is a good thing...because it shows just how sorry he is for breaking another campaign promise. |

Eh. I supported the Iraq invasion provided that the scope were limited. I support the Libya campaign so long as the scope remains limited. |

Its a shame Olbermann isn't on there anymore. I'd love to see him have a cardiac on national television it would be far more interesting than anything that's ever come out of his mouth. Is it safe to say this is the nail in the coffin for a 2012 run? |

Jon Stewart's bit about the no-fly zone last night was really weak. And honestly, if people still aren't clear on why exactly this "bomb the fuck out of Gadhafi" thing is going on, they should be all taken out back and quietly put out of their misery. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, I guess. |

Right now I feel its kinda too little too late. The time to have a no fly zone was whwen the Rebels were knocking on ol' Lizard Pecker's doorstep. Now that he's pretty much bombed them back to their starting points, I don't see where this will lead. The only way this will change will be if the Brits get their way, and are allowed to make ol' Lizard Pecker a legitimate target. Unfortunately, Def Sec'y Gates is kinda appalled by that notion. |

Yeah if he hadn't done anything then everyone that's criticizing him now for dragging us into another war would be criticizing him for not doing anything. I would be criticizing him for that too. Instead I'm going to criticize him for waiting too long. I think our window of opportunity for this thing to work right was about three weeks ago. When it appeared that the rebels had him on the ropes I suspect just the threat of a no-fly zone might have pushed him over the edge and he might actually have given up and gone to live with Hugo. It still might work out. Gaddafi's armed forces aren't in the best of shape now. He basically has no Air Force. But the aftermath is likely to be messy and I'm afraid we won't be able to stay out of whatever mess ensues after Gaddafi is gone. Maybe we can just quietly walk away and let the French and Italians deal with the aftermath. It's in their back yard after all. |
