Queen: Elections and Assistance Act Does Not Apply

Alqanian Antarctica Daily As communicated through a press release, the Queen of Alqania, in Her Majesty's capacity as the court of last resort, has upheld the judgement of the Superior Administrative Court over Yoale, Aelont and Corvonne that The Queen's decision to a deny a petition from the Islamic Democratic Party, which effectively rendered the WA Elections and Assistance Act null and void throughout the Queendom, was legal and valid according to Her Majesty's Constitution.

Although Her Majesty's decision that Her Majesty's decision was correct did not come as a surprise to anyone, elections to the National Assembly had been indefinitely postponed during the drawn-out judicial process. With all appeals exhausted, preparations and campaigning for the elections may now be resumed.

An Alqanian Antarctica Daily online poll indicates a majority reaction of satisfaction that the matter is now finally closed, while a vocal minority of pro-democracy activists expresses dissatisfaction with The Queen's decision not to invite WA election observers.

The Wilborg-based independent organisation Alqanians for an Independent Judiciary, which has previously expressed concerns over The Queen's role as the court of last resort, has reacted to the judgement with calls for a separation of powers. The Islamic Democratic Party says in a statement that the judgement comes as a disappointment, but not a surprise.

The National Alqanian Electoral Office has yet to release the election date, following today's go-ahead.
