The wilds outside the city on the way to the ocean where quiet and harsh. The wind had died down for a short while, so the biting chill of the icy wind was not permeating his robes as he walked across the ice. His knee-high leather boots clicked across the surface, the occasional cracking of the ice below his feet unnerving and threatening. He moved away from the cracking ice, looking through the slight cracks to see a hollow falling under the ice. He smiled to himself, standing again and removing the dai-katana from the strap on his waist and used the hilt to tap the ice around him. Whenever a hollow echo noise came back from the ice, he skillfully avoided stepping on it. This was one of the many survival skills he had taught himself in the wilds. He stopped for a moment as the wind picked up again. He ducked behind a pillar of snow and ice as his long brown hair whipped up with the wind from the top of his high pony-tail. His layered silk top was warm, unless faced with wind, so he kept out of the wind for the most part. Around his wrists where tight leather arm guards that reached to nearly his elbow and kept the wind from reaching under his top. He even had the opening near his neck bound tightly with a scarf made from the fur of a Snow Stalker.

The wind calmed again and he ventured forth, tapping the ice as he went. When he came to the edge of a slight cliff in the ice, he kneeled and looked over the edge at the snow-covered ice below. His grey eyes narrowed for a moment before he waved his hand, causing a ball of ice to appear before him and he waved his wrist, sending the ball hurtling towards the ground below before embedding deeply into the ice. He looked at the cracks around it and, determining it was safe, he leapt from the incline and landing on the ice with a roll. He hissed at the pins and needles sensation that shot up his legs and arms from both the cold and the landing. Waiting for the sensation to end, he stood and rehooked his sword to his belt. This was the thicker ice before the ocean, so he had little to fear of falling in. Besides, this area often had Innocent Ones below the ice, so even if he fell in it would unlikely he would die.

Stopping for a moment to look at the endless expanse of ice and snow around him, before putting two fingers to his mouth and letting out a shrill whistle that seemed to echo and carry over the endless ice. A moment of silence seized the land before the sound of thundering paws filled the air as a large horse-sized wolf barreled towards him. She was a proud beast, pure white with mint-green markings reminiscent of henna or tribal tattoos and three tails flapping behind her. A light blue silk scarf, a gift from her chosen wizard, fluttered against the wind brought on by her charge. She skidded to a stop in front of him and he smiled, raising a hand to pet her thick fur. "Hello." He said softly and her bright green eyes reflected his greeting. She was fully able to talk, like all Snow Wolves, but she chose silence over speech.

He kissed her between the eyes and took to walking towards the water again, the female wolf following loyally behind him. Her claws tapped against the ice as they neared the water's edge. The salty waves crashed against the ice, cracking and molding it, sending the sent of salt and frigid air against his pale skin. He smiled, despite the slight discomfort of salt on his face, and stopped at the water's edge, peering into the depths of the bright blue water. Somewhere in the depths was the woman he came to pick up.

They had a date in the city.

((You are forgiven XD and here, have some Ariel))

The water was cool and salty, with light filtering in from above. The beams in the water showed a glimpse of the surface above, sometimes even showing faces that moved and shimmered. Tiamat Lamar enjoyed seeing those faces hovering above the water’s edge, looking down at her. They were her makers, in a sense. She was grateful to them for giving her this watery existence, this beautiful tail and fins, the ability to explore a world uncharted. But something was missing. She also had the ability to grow a pair of legs to replace her tail, but she rarely used it. After meeting Markus, she longed for the opportunity to walk on land and see the city he always talked about.

She was also nervous about it. It was a strange world up there, cold and white. It wasn’t her oceanic home, where she could swim wherever she wanted, lounge on coral reefs, and play with her fishy friends all day. She wondered if she would need to take her makeshift weapons for protection. Where there dangerous creatures up there like there was down here? That’s what she wanted to know. She wanted to see the people, face to face, see the city they lived in, the buildings they called home. She had a small cave where she kept most of her belongings, where she returned to for rest, but it was different from how he described a house.

Today was the day. He was going to meet her at the edge soon. She swam frantically around her cave, wondering what she should bring. She often showed him the various items she found during her explorations, swimming down to her cave or other secret hiding places and bringing them up to the surface. They were trinkets, mostly shells and sea jewels, but sometimes things from the world above drifted down here to the world below. She hardly dived down deep into the dark waters, where it was colder and the dangerous creatures lived, but there were a few times where she followed an item that glinted in the sun. They would sometimes land on the reefs, or near her cave, be swept by the currents and caught on the coral. She loved finding things from the city.

Finally deciding on what she wanted to bring and what to leave behind, she hastily slung a netted bag over her shoulder and rushed toward the meeting place. Her tail sliced through the water rapidly as her excitement grew. Breaching the surface, she saw Markus waiting for her, along with his large furry companion, what he called a Snow Wolf.

“You’re here! I brought some things to show you, and some things I wanted to take with me into the city. See?” she spoke quickly, swinging her bag around to plop it onto the ice. Her small dagger was there—just in case—along with some recent items she found and some favorites she didn’t like being without. A few jewels and shells she found to be the most beautiful were among the bunch, as well as stuff she had no idea about. What did this do? Who was this for? What was this called? She always asked him questions when she brought stuff up, but she was too excited to actually go into the city to think to ask him now.

He did not have to wait long for her to surface, and he smiled to himself. She looked as if she had been rushing about her little hidey-hole again, trying to decide what treasures to come show him today. He squatted down, placing on hand on his knee and the other arm extended to help her up on the ice before he finally sat next to her, his beloved wolf opting to lie down behind them, blocking the wind as best as she could. He listened patiently to her excitement for as long as she spoke, his almost cat-like grin never leaving his face. He was in love with her something fierce, and her child-like wonder was one of the many things he deeply loved about her, though he'd never really say it to her. She was an Innocent One, she did not need to be tainted by a surfacer's desires and whims. No, he would protect her innocence, even from himself.

When she mentioned the things she brought, he quietly took each object and looked them over, smiling to himself and her when he saw something he knew and his brows furrowed a bit when he saw an object he did not. But that was part of the fun, he supposed, for both of them. He certainly did not know everything (he'd never tell her that), so he enjoyed finding the histories of her objects just the same as she did. He chuckled to himself at her excitement and looked over at her. "Well we can't go anywhere until you have two proper legs, Tia." He reminded gently. He could not very well drag a still-finned Innocent One into the city gates and she would surely stick to the ice after a while, which would cause her great pain. "Do you still remember what I told you about shifting forms?" He asked. They'd never really spent time together with her walking, so as far as he knew, this was the first time she had ever shifted into a two-legged form.

He waited for her approval before he channeled his magic into his hand. It was a wild thing, magic, and it seemed as hesitant as he was about performing a new spell he had only ever read about. He had never performed the spell to grant an Innocent One the ability to shift forms, but he knew all the mechanics of it and even had some elder wizards tell him what it felt like when he channeled the correct magic into her fins. She would be able to shift forms whenever she liked if he performed it right, but the idea of a new spell was always unnerving. His magic tensed under his skin, curling like a frightened cat against his palm as he neared his skin to her scales. He reached out with his mind and eased his own tension, feeling the magic calm and unwind with him. He could do this. He learned best when he performed magic, and she trusted him so very much.

He finally put his palm to her scales and felt his magic spread from his palm and across her tail and fins, interweaving with their very basic form and beginning to re-arrange them. He looked at her and sent her a gentle yet confident smile. "Don't worry, Tia. I know it probably feels funny." He said, silently hoping he reassured her as well as himself. Magic reacted to panic and fear, as it did to peace and happiness. And if he lost his calm mind-set, it was possible he could further her own magically created DNA and mutate her further. Such stories were uncommon to hear about, but he had seen some of the worst mistakes performed by wizards who lost their level heads during a casting. No. He thought to himself, regaining control over his magic as it began to tremble a bit from his frightening thought path. I will not loose control.

He finished releasing the amount of magic he assumed would be needed, and watched as her lower body ignited in light and began to change. He turned then, pulling a make-shift skirt from his bag that he had hastily woven together using a old silk curtain of his and handed it to her before the light faded. "Wrap it around your waist." He hastily explained. "It is not proper for a young lady like you to run around the city without proper covering." He said and hoped she would understand. This was probably all new to her, so he'd explain as best as he could after she was decent.

((Much better.))

He looked at her as he usually did, with that benevolent grin and interested eye. She knew she was babbling and finished with a sheepish grin, then was helped out of the water. The cold breeze hit her and she shivered. However the water was cold as well, so it was not as much of a shock. The only difference was the wind. Thankfully the large companion he always traveled with was blocking most of it.

When he mentioned the transformation into two legs, she was excited but slightly nervous, nodding her head in acquiescence. She was only a small child the last time she had two legs, and it was an awkward yet exhilarating experience. She wondered what it would be like now, fully grown, after being so used to her fins. It wasn’t just her fish appendages, but the way she moved. She knew it was different to traverse land than it was in the water, firstly because they walked upright instead of gliding forward and sideways. Second the way she moved her tail, side to side, was different from how the walkers put one—what was it? Foot?—in front of another. She would have to get used to it, and fairly quickly she assumed, if it was such a long trek back to the city. She wondered briefly if he brought the Snow Wolf for her to ride on the way.

But she wanted to walk. She wanted to know what it felt like. She wanted to run.

She jolted slightly when he touched her scales and she felt the magic tingle through her. He made a comment not to worry, saying it might tickle. It was an odd feeling, slightly uncomfortable yet pleasing at the same time. She was more eager than afraid, and watched the process closely. That is, until he handed her some form of clothing and told her to wrap it around her waist. She assumed he meant the fabric to replace her tail, which caused some confusion. Why give her legs only to wrap them back up?

Her ignorance did not last long, however, as her lower body was replaced with skin like his—and the cold breeze, the ice, started to sting. She examined his legs and how they were covered and sought to do the same, but the fabric was different. There was an opening which allowed her legs room to maneuver, which she assumed was the correct way to wear it.

“Like this?” she asked, indicating the position of the fabric. She couldn’t wait to stand up and start walking, but she knew she would need his help. Lifting her arms, she silently asked him to help pick her up. She wondered if he had another piece of fabric to cover her arms and chest the same way, as her makeshift top was beginning to freeze to her skin.
