The Interstellar Alliance![]() General Information
History
Government The Executive The Interstellar Alliance is run, first and foremost, by the Office of the Prime Minister. Said office does not denote the actual working environment but instead the people and departments designated as those responsible for running the Alliance. Primarily this includes the Prime Minister himself and his Council of Ministers which includes the Ministers of State, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Environment, Finance and Defence. The cabinet meets bi-weekly to discuss anything of importance, with the Prime Minister in attendance at least once a month. In times of emergency the cabinet can be called to meet via hologram, though such instances are rare due to the potential for hacking or outside interference. The Prime Minister is not superior in the sense that he can ignore the other branches of government, however; a series of checks and balances ensure that the executive body is answerable and can be monitored by the legislature and the judiciary, much as they can be monitored and are answerable to the executive. Any member of the cabinet can be brought before the legislature to answer questions should the legislature vote for such a measure, and it is possible for them to remove a minister from their position by a two-thirds majority vote. The Parliament The legislature of the Interstellar Alliance is a complex limb of the government. Responsible for the proposal and passing of bills and new articles of legislation, the Alliance consists of two representatives from every member planet and celestial body, all of whom represent one of the various political parties in the Alliance. The exception to this rule is Earth, which provides one representative per nation state, those being the United North American States, the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Chinese People's Federation. These individuals - known as Members of Parliament or, formerly, the "Honorable Member of Parliament for the planet ..." - meet at least once a month on Earth, but can be called together by the Parliamentary Speaker in emergency situations, identified as times of war, immediate danger to the Alliance as a whole, the death of the cabinet and so forth. The parliament is powerful in that it can hold the executive and judicial branches to account for their actions, but it is also the slowest moving of the three branches because here is where most of the political battles are fought. The Judiciary The judiciary of the Alliance is the least political of the three branches, instead focused on the enforcement of law. There are three types of courts. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the Alliance and deals only with the most severe of cases; high treason, attempted murder of the cabinet, war crimes such as genocide and so forth are brought before this court. It consists of twelve justices and a head justice, continuing with slight modifications the style of the Supreme Court of the United States. Below this court are the Planetary Courts; they deal with major issues on individual planets within the Alliance that are important, but not so important as to be taken to the Supreme Court. Below them are the regional courts; smaller courts on different regions of a planet to deal with minor to moderately important cases. Other Departments Colonial Affairs Administration The Colonial Affairs Administration was established as one of the highest authorities in the Alliance when it comes to matters pertaining to Alliance colonies across the galaxy. Their duty is to catalog colonies, plan for the creation of new colonies and to ensure that said colonies are capable of prospering economically without continual financial support from the central planets in the Alliance. Many consider the CAA to be one of the main reasons the Alliance is capable of expanding and prospering as quickly as it has. Alliance Geological Service As the human race expands its territory and raises the general standard of living, demand for industrial resources continues to grow. Many planets, moons, and asteroids contain a wealth of resources, but many systems have been barely charted, let alone thoroughly surveyed. Unmanned probes are one solution, but they are often lost to space hazards, unforeseen circumstances, or theft by salvagers. In recent years, AGS, the Alliance Geological Service, has offered bounties to private individuals or teams willing to perform mineralogical surveys on the frontier. This survey data is made publicly available to further corporate development. Due to the cost of travel and the dangers of operating on hostile worlds, it is rarely a profitable endeavor. The Intelligence Service The Interstellar Alliance Intelligence Service, whilst a civilian agency, is usually found under military organization listings within the Alliance for the purposes of keeping things simple. Their duty is to gather information for use by the Alliance, engage in counter espionage and cyber warfare with the enemy and enact covert operations. The Intelligence Service is headed by a director and monitored by the Intelligence Committee. The Intelligence Service has been the source of controversy in parliament with many feeling that the civilian agency has too little oversight, but it has served its purpose well and as such no action has been taken. Economy The Alliance has quickly become a key player in the galactic economy, with several large human corporations taking their market share. The Alliance is known to have dealings and contracts with some of the galaxies biggest corporations. There are countless hundreds, if not thousands of companies that work day and night to churn over a profit within Alliance space, of which the government takes a slice in return for the right to market products within their space. This money helps to keep the Alliance afloat and promote growth within the market. Diplomacy Allies Neutral

Military The Alliance military, comprised of the Navy, Marines, Army and Sanzali Guard, is regarded as a "sleeping giant," as less than 10% of humans volunteer to serve in their military, a lower proportion than any other species. Their doctrine is not based on absorbing and dishing out heavy shocks. Rather, they bypass enemy strong points and launch deep into their rear, cutting supply lines and destroying headquarters and support units, leaving enemies to "wither on the vine". On defensive, the human military is a rapid reaction force that lives by Sun Tzu's maxim, "He who tries to defend everything defends nothing." Garrisons are intended for scouting rather than combat, avoiding engagement to observe and report on invaders using drones. The token garrisons of human colonies make it easy for alien powers to secure them, for which the media criticizes the military. However, the powerful fleets stationed at key systems are just a few hours or days from any colony within their sphere of responsibility. In the event of an attack, they respond with an overwhelming force. Alliance Navy ![]() The Surprise class cruiser, mainstay vessel of the Alliance Navy The Alliance Navy is a space combat force primarily charged with protecting human colonies. While the Navy stations only token garrisons to guard Alliance colonies, its strength is centered upon powerful fleets stationed in strategic systems that can rapidly respond to any colony under attack. Today fleet numbers surpass a thousand ships following continued colonial expansion. Its individual vessels range considerably in size and firepower, varying from frigates to dreadnoughts. Fleet units are also supported by fighters and dedicated interceptors deployed from cruisers, dreadnoughts, and carriers. ![]() From left to right: Officer's uniform, enlisted uniform Alliance Marines ![]() Alliance marines deploying The Alliance's ship-based infantry forces, the Marines, are geared for diversity and flexibility being able to board other ships or be dropped on world after world boasting a strong array of abilities compared to other infantry outfits.
