1. IF YOU HAVE A HIGH HORSE, LEAVE IT AT THE STABLES.
Remember, we're a diverse community of people. Everyone wants to be treated with respect, and showing respect to others makes the community better for all members. Everyone here has something to learn, and if you're registering with Artists Today just to make others feel inferior, we will direct you to the nearest exit.

2. IF IT'S NOT YOUR ART, DON'T TAKE CREDIT FOR IT.
Plagiarism is a large concern for all artists, and we understand that. By posting any content of Artists Today, you are not giving up any ownership. If another member has taken your work, please contact a staff member immediately. We take such allegations very seriously. We have enabled a "delete thread" feature, therefore permission is not required to remove any of your content. It's yours, and you should have the option of taking it down.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?
According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file). All of the following are considered plagiarism:

  • turning in someone else's work as your own.
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks.
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation.
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit.
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules).
Most cases of plagiarism can be avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material has been borrowed, and providing your audience with the information necessary to find that source, is usually enough to prevent plagiarism. See our section on citation for more information on how to cite sources properly.

3. ONE ACCOUNT PER MEMBER.
Users may only have one account. If you were like to change your username, you may contact an administrator. This is not a problem.

4. NO ADVERTISING OR SPAMMING.
Do not send personal messages to "advertise" for your site or blog. It's annoying, and our members don't need that kind of burden. Artists Today is a place to gain knowledge (not customers or page views). If you have experience in something, it is OK to accompany a good, on-topic reply with a link to a website. You may not post links that are unrelated to the topic or are clearly meant only to solicit others for personal and financial gain. There is a designated area to advertise your blog.

5. POSTING RULES:
- DO post in the correct category. If it's poetry, post it in the poetry section. If it's a painting, post in the painting section. Fairly simple, though you would be surprised to know it's hard for some people to follow. We have this rule to keep your work organized.
- DO create a caution label in the Topic Description if it contains NSFW (NOT SAFE FOR WORK) content. We don't want to get anyone "in trouble".
- DO NOT upload your entire book in one post. I would recommend posting your book in separate chapters as separate topics.
- DO NOT post offensive or hateful material. This means do not post blatant pornography, hate speech, or illegal content. We reserve the right to remain any distasteful content.
- AVATARS may no exceed 100 pixels in width and 100 pixels in height. AVATARS may not contain pornography.
- SIGNATURES may contain images, however, should not exceed 450 pixels in height or 550 pixels in width. SIGNATURES may not contain pornography.

By registering with Artists Today, you agree to follow these rules and guidelines to the best of your ability.
